It seems too much trouble to inform us which madrigals will be broadcast.

These days, if you see on R3’s website, Vivaldi’s violin concerto or Scarlatti’s keyboard sonata, you ought to be pleased that you have some idea what you are going to hear. I expect the people (if that) who are writing the contents think these are the names of the works. From the mess on the playlist, they don’t seem to know that composers and performers are usually different in classical music (especially in early music).

I'm afraid I didn't enjoy the Pergolesi Stabat Mater on today's show.
The virtues of this particular performance escaped me. Sounded more like opera than sacred music to me.

CPE Bach: 4 October: Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin

A selection of chamber works by JS Bach's second son, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, performed by Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and recorded at the Schwetzingen Festival in May 2014, in celebration of the 300th anniversary of the composer's birth. Music includes his Trio Sonata in G Wq 144, the cantata Der Frühling with soprano Isa Katharina Gericke, and the Quartet for piano, flute, viola and cello in G, Wq 95.
Akademie fur Alte Musik Berlin performs chamber music by CPE Bach at Schwetzingen 2014.

Another(?)300th anniversary concert by Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin . Looks splendid (I’ve just found it)
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

I have a CD of the AAMB performing JC and CPE including JC's G minor symphony. The notes quote CPE commenting on JC: "There is nothing behind my brother's current compositions..." :-) Brothers, eh!
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I posted this quote elsewhere but JC was said to have commented ‘My brother (CPE) lives to compose. I compose to live’. Brothers; indeed.

                    La Stagione Frankfurt: 18 October

                    From R3 website:
The orchestra La Stagione Frankfurt is considered one of the most successful ensembles in the field of authentic music performance. […] by composers such as Franz Beck, Stradella, Alessandro Scarlatti, Holzbauer and the sons of Bach.

This concert was recorded last year as part of the Concertgebouw Sunday Morning series and includes music by Vivaldi, JS Bach and Telemann.

                    From La Stagione Frankfurt’s website:
The orchestra La Stagione Frankfurt has for many years been counted among the most successful ensembles in the field of authentic music performance .[…] by composers such as F.I. Beck, A. Stradella, A. Scarlatti, I. Holzbauer and the sons of Bach

Never mind. The music should be good (all the same…)

Most of the first part of CD Review was devoted to early music. The piece by Sheringham (a contemporary of Cornysh?) was most arresting, often two-part in texture, and will apparently be the Hilliards' swan song. BTW, loved Jarousky's voice earlier on!

As flagged on the dedicated thread... http://www.for3.org/forums/showthrea...861#post436861

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I enjoyed this programme immensely. Instrumentalists excellent, singing just a tad coarse at times, but I'm sure they were aiming for a 'straight' sound, which as far as anyone can know, is how it might have sounded.

I am mystified, totally mystified, why this Saturday slot isn't called THE EARLY MUSUC SHOW. The continuity announcer fulfilled a sort of Catherine Bott role, but wasn't named. Why not? She was good, even managing to pronounce Ockeghem several times in a row without choking to death. I think the Beeb is in denial. Never mind, we're still getting EMS by another name. It couldn't be anything to do with....us???

I think that is because all the concerts on this programme were recorded elsewhere, i.e. not a production of the BBC. I mentioned this somewhere, this programme is surplus of Through the Night. There have been a number of programmes from the same concerts that were broadcast on TTN. The Oriana programme even used the same script. As for last week's programme, I enjoyed it very much, too.

                                Concerto Copenhagen: 8 November

Rameau's Suite from Platée and Telemann's Dramatic Cantata Ino performed by Concerto Copenhagen and director Lars Ulrik Mortensen, with soprano Maria Keohane, recorded in the Grand Hall at the Konzerthaus in Vienna as part of the Resonanzen Festival earlier this year.

                                Just started. Sounds very good.
