    Byrd on the piano

I hear everyone say. But one of the 'callers in' on Sunday Breakfast this a.m. (yes I was listening to it) requested Glen Gould playing Sellinger's Round. It worked. The combination of GG's clear articulation with his doctored Steinway made it somehow kosher...and very enjoyable.

I had to laugh. The presenter, in the usual inept way that Breakfast presenters deal with live phone calls, said "Now tell me Anthony, do you particularly like this period of music?" Reply: "No not really".

If it sounds good, that's what matters - not what other people might want you to think, based upon theory rather than the ears.

Oh, but most Gould recordings tend to sound pretty awful. His musicianship easily makes up for the less than wonderful audio quality, however.
