    The Triumphs of Oriana

Just noticed this coming up on TTN:

Including a performance of The Triumphs of Oriana, written for Queen Elizabeth I.

Someone's come up with a nice little haul there. Anniversaries do sometimes have felicitous outcomes!
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

if not for the originator. It is exactly 411 years since Elizabeth I failed to make it TTN.

There is also a theory now afoot that Oriana was not Elizabeth, but Anne of Denmark (consort to James I (also died this week - exactly 389 years ago)). Nevertheless the Triumphs are often anthologised but rarely presented together.

That theory is several decades old but few, I believe, now take it seriously. As for the music, it's a very mixed bag and some numbers are frankly pretty feeble.

I call it quaint Very enjoyable for the first thing in the morning, looking at the garden where the birds and the squirrels are getting busy. Music from a different time but the same birds (not sure about the squirrels and definitely not collar doves).
