Digestif rather than apéritif here - and always the chartreuse vieillissement exceptionellement prolongé (vep), please.

The Enc: Brit: usually the Ninth Edn (1875 et seqq) plus the New Volumes.

Sobranie? - purleaze! - tho' in the bad old days the occasional H Upmann. Not since the arrival of Mme V, however...

Definitely. Houseguest with indigestion was miraculously cured one evening recently by a modest application of GC
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Thanks for the information. She read Economics, worked for Texaco - nothing wrong with either of those, but I don't see much evidence of involvement in the Arts. (Whereas I have seen at least one minister at the Proms - but he's busy rescuing the NHS.)

A seventeen word "rant"? Frugality Ferney, that's me: a novel in a sigh.

After all, if you followed that line of reasoning, just think of all the composers whose music one could never listen to.
Well he certainly seems to know his stuff re classical music on record.

I presume your request is taking it - but to help out the even older members of the board it is to do with weak bladder control caused by laughter

I think I prefer my version

& I suspect some of the 'even older' members don't need to be laughing to experience the condition in your version.

As for listening to David Mellor, however good his show may be....i just don't think I could, really.

                          No offence, Dave !

Yes, but funnily enough I did make the effort to listen to the show in those days!

Me too Alison,it was so bad I just had to listen.

I reckon his Sunday cd review show is the complete opposite,it's very good indeed.
