I'm sure prejudice plays a part here, but the combination of Classic FM and David Mellor is one I find easy to resist, (even though I did once stand next to Mr Mellor at a urinal in the Barbican).
Are you sure it wasn't the "member" who started this thread ?

A perfect opportunity to turn round, mid-flow, and say 'aren't you John Major'!
I have heard various programmes he has presented on Classic FM over recent years, including one devoted to CD new releases. I'm afraid I found him rather self-opinionated (and often inaccurate) and extremely charmless. Perhaps I was too much aware of his previous history in his day job - and even more aware of the numerous genuine musicians/critics who could do a better job.
I've not found him self-opinionated, and a lot of presenters are charmless. What he does have is a love and enthusiasm for classical music, and I think that comes across. Not bothered about his previous either, it doesn't affect his presentation. But then I also rather enjoy Michael Portillo's railway journeys!!

Funnily enough, I stood next to Jeffrey Archer in a urinal once. It was at the Press Night for Nicholas Nickleby at the Gielgud Theatre.
Perhaps we have the seeds of a whole new thread here.....

Spike Milligan once stood next to Harpo Marx in the backstage urinals at the London Palladium.
"What are you doing in my dressing room?" demanded Harpo.

If I was a dry cleaner, I'm not sure I would have wanted Alex as the "face" of my organisation.
As for listening to David Mellor, however good his show may be....i just don't think I could, really.
No offence, Dave !
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.
Someone DID ask me that, I think it was in the Co-op in Nuneaton (20 years ago) wife and kids thought it was hilarious and a ROFL scene started round the whole shop. I wasn't amused at all, I mean c'mon, I had moustache back then. Hmm yeah I think John Major had top lip 5 o'clock shadow, well a 9am shadow more like it.
Roll on floor laughing - together with PMSL an acronym of choice amongst youngsters apparently, Whether it comes from the antics of Peppa Pig and friends the mind boggles .
Meanwhile, extremely charmless sums up the repellent Mellor to a tee.

'Repellent' is rather strong, old chap.
