    Art and Sculpture Exhibition

Eamonn ODoherty, from Derry, whom I knew as a young man, was a contemporary of Seamus Heaney, and they probably knew each other at Grammar School. I knew him as the highly entertaining younger brother of a contemporary of my own. He left Derry to study architecture, turned to art, particularly sculpture, and disappeared from my ken for a lifetime. I heard various intermittent reports, and viewed a few of his sculptures from time to time. He died in 2011.

The City of Culture arranged for an exhibition of his work for 2013. I was mimimally familiar with some of his work, and I felt enough of a sense of loyalty to go along. I was very taken with what I saw of his sculptures and art works. The exhibition closes at the weekend and I am attending a final talk, and hopefully meeting some of his family.

I post this as a very modest tribute to Eamonn, and as a contribution to the Arts conversations on this board. There is more information online, and I have selected one item which gives an overview, and picks out what many locals think is the highlight of the show.
