I've now caught up with Ep. 2... I was slightly less enthralled ...
But I liked the juxtaposition of the house-warming with David Threlfall's failed attempt at neighbourly sociability with his bottle of whisky, and the rather predatory son of the journalist was very convincing and unsettling
    ...
    !
Threlfall's character is being subtly strengthened whilst those of the "suspects" are being traduced. It remains very watchable.

I'll watch Vera 2 tomorrow or Friday. Choir practice tonight.

Thoughts of mangerton writ small:Looks for suitable singing icon...... fails to find one. We'll need to get some musical icons. At work - no time to look now.

I watched both episodes - only having seen repeats from early series - rubbish I thought, Dr, is merely a caricature and others dance around him, being dimly comic
Am watching Guilty - too much ersatz Broadchurch.
Didn't watch The Pesky Blighters - seems to have good reviews? Somehow gangsters with a Birmingham accent doesn't seem right - guess it was written for the American market, what with the Irish Fenian elements and a US actor starring?
What Remains. Dunno We shall see tomorrow.

Moody? Is that a fracking Howellian synonym for 'desolate'?

                  Bother!

Is Stephanie Cole still doing her bit for plaid shirts?

I agree; the previous series have had a certain charm which made them watchable, but the worst aspects of the concept that you mention have been lazily exaggerated and the charm jettisoned.

Am watching Guilty - too much ersatz Broadchurch.
Yes, we didn't bother with episode two for this reason - the story in episode one wasn't gripping enough to make it unmissable.

On the other hand, the past couple of episodes of Vera were very well plotted and performed, with good characterization (the pathologist setting Vera's ringtone to We'll meet again on his mobile 'phone, and then later we saw him slumped in depression, left on his own).

And the new batch of New Tricks is a vast improvement on a series that had become formulaic - James Bolam's criticisms when he left seem to have struck a chord with the writers.

Her character was killed off a couple of series ago - replaced by another relative with the same character quirks

I thought I'd missed an episode of 'What Remains' where Stephanie Cole was callously slaughtered

Are you talking about that Cornish vehicle for Clunes Jr.?

The odd trailer I've caught made it look insufferably twee and I must say I've successfully avoided it like the plague!!

Have you watched 'What Remains' ? Last one tomorrow!
