I thought the first part wasn't bad at all.

A pity he talked over the music such a lot - but an hour is a very short time to cover the period from Henry V to Elizabeth.

I'd never heard Henry V's mass movement settings.

Almost the best thing was that all the images were of the period - I hate it when I'm offered some Victorian realisation of a medieval person or event

I too enjoyed it very much. He knows a great deal about the Tudor era so this was great. I am looking forward to the episodes to come.

Too much talking over the music for me, although I enjoyed the programme.
Surely Dr Starkey's comments could be printed right at the bottom of the screen while the music is being sung.
Normal subtitles break up the picture usually. Lovely locations though.

On the subject of subtitles - someone should have told whoever 'translated' the Agincourt carol that affray isn't the same as afraid.
