    BBC4 tonight Tuesday, 25th June

I thought a bunch of rather nice programmes deserved a little heads-up.

Hidcote, A Garden for all seasons 8pm

The Genius of Carl Faberge. New. 9pm

Metroland. Betjeman's nostalgic 1973 look at the Metropolitan Line. 11pm.

The latter a favourite I haven't seen for ages.

A great selection salymap - Hidcote should be coming up to its full pomp at this time of year.

      saly,

Here's a little Betjeman story. Sir John came into the Dubbing Theatre to record the commentary and see the mix for a film about Georgian architecture in Dublin.

Unfortunately, I had to get away early, so I arranged with my colleague that I would record the commentary in the afternoon, and he would complete the mix in the evening.
All went well, and Betjeman was lovely. Sadly, after I left, they discovered that I had accidentally clipped a couple of words, and had to ask Sir John to re-record a line. Apparently he said - " What a pity! and he seemed such a nice young man! '

I was nearly fifty at the time !

lovely story Ferret. My late partner saw Betjeman in a tube train. He was sitting on the little tip-up seat at the end of a long carriage and looking 'very Betjeman' I was told.

I still haven't seen last night film but have recorded it.
