    Bryan Forbes has died

Bryan Forbes, actor, film director and screen-writer has died after a long illness.

As well as many of the films mentioned in the obituary below I remember his ground-breaking caper film The League of Gentlemen and his sinister The Whisperers starring Dame Edith Evans and Eric Portman.

Writer and director's films included Whistle Down The Wind and The Stepford Wives

Very sad indeed. I never realised he was married to Nanette Newman the actress.

He was a good writer. I see his last film script was for Chaplin, which I thought was a good one. My favourite among them, though, is Seance On A Wet Afternoon.

The Whisperers - 1967 - with the wonderful Dame Edith Evans - for me! A neglected classic.

I do hope that it is released on DVD sometime soon, Karafan

Me, too, mercs - them there moors are where I were born (the year before the film was released!)

Forbes himself appeared as an actor in another of my favourite films - as Eric Burling in An Inspector Calls.
