The idea that Tom was stronger than Danny, and had to pulled off by vicar....means that it wasn't an accident (Father accidently kills Danny because of bullying ....doesn't wash....)Tom kills Danny, Father tries to clear up after....seems possible but not much of a stretch for the writers.....

Postman now completely disappeared from plot and opening sequence....(in real life the postman would have been brought in for questioning....not just a 2minute quiz in the street....) Niges allibi still only "I was poaching" no corroboration....

Yes, I sometimes watch programme (like Parades End) because I enjoy analysing their production (like Broadchurch too I guess)....bit of an armchair producer/director....I suppose that is perhaps an indictment of my general attitude to most things (excepting Nature)....

Looking on the Net the general opinion is that Joe Miller and Tom are prime suspects followed by Nige and the Vicar. Problem is the PM showed Danny had been strangled by a pair of adult hands .... as to motive, whether drugs, poaching, internet scam or whatever, no-one has a plausible theory. There are comments about Jack Marshall reading Jude the Obscure on the night of the killing and the name of D.I. Hardy, plus it's Wessex police .... Does anyone remember the flashback involving Mark and Danny when he's cradling and comforting the boy outside the bedroom, does anyone recall what he was saying? And also, the killer has Danny's phone ...... I wonder what ferney, Ams and Rumpole's views are? (when they've caught up with latest episode)

Just finished watching last night's.... The mind's awhirl. Agree with all the questions here.

Quite the sleuth, aren't we, 8thO?

I rather liked the slide of Hardy and Susan from villains to heroes / victims... (that scene with Susan returning to her caravan to find Nige there: she was positioned so that an ornament on the wall gave her a halo...

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Yes! ... and Miller's parting shot before she left the police station ("That man, in your house; and you knew nothing?!") was, I thought, setting her [Miller] up for a humiliation in next week's episode?

....What's the big burning boat with Dannys blood and hair on it got to do with it, if they used small boat to place body on beach....??

Viking Funeral? Something symbolic? Red Herring? I just want episode 8 to knock me sideways and think 'Well, blow me, I didn't see that coming'

Maybe the bigger boat was where the fight etc happened and Danny was indeed killed in it?
Maybe the killer thought that by burning the boat all traces of Danny would be obliterated?

                  Deliciously puzzled!!

Me, too - I wondered about the boat burning last week (#79):

Something that's bothering me - why did "they" (whoever it was) set fire to the boat? I mean - conspicuous or what? Why not just scupper it if they just wanted to get rid of the evidence? Burning it in full view of everyone - it's as if they wanted it to be seen - so that it detracts attention from ... ?

I'm just totally perplexed, loved the scene between Olivia Coleman and Pauline Quirke - great TV acting I thought. It's puzzlement upon puzzlement in this house, I can tell you

A 'friend' has just convinced me that it was Tom what dunnit in an accident and his bald dad helped him in a cover-up.

It's a clever ending if so but not quite what I was hoping for

As I pointed out above ... but could a second pair of hands mask a first pair of hands if done quickly enough? If it's Tom (and he's favourite with Ladbrookes at 3-1) then my comments about references to Jude the Obscure are perhaps relevent? Joe Miller is 4-7. As for the the burning boat - I've just seen that Viking River Cruises pulled their sponsorship and ads after that episode!

The producer has said that viewers should watch until the very, very end tonight to get the full picture:-

My brother was telling me about this yesterday, but as I didn't know what he was talking about I've got a bit muddled.

However this suggests that some scenes were shot in Clevedon (I remember him telling me about Clevedon Old Church - St Andrews, where Tennyson's friend Hallam ("In Memoriam") was buried. He also mentioned something where Doctor Who is being filmed, but I think that's somewhere else nearby.

Poundbury? What does it look like, then? Doesn't sound like Clevedon. Was part of it set in Lyme Regis, or was that something else? They were on about fossils at one time
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
