Kitchen's quality is a given (one of the great screen actors now) but the actors playing a mysterious Dutch professor and a damaged ex-soldier were really exceptional...
I enjoyed the series, but thought that there was a crescendo of quality through the three stories - the second better than the first, the third better than the second.

Quite right. The first one was a mess. All that election business with Sam's other half was boring and diluted it... (ditto, to a slightly lesser extent, ep 2).

Well, while we're at it: what about the psychic and the postman?

I'm guessing after tonight all we'll get is more red herrings which makes me hope, as we're all seeing it through to the end, that the final episode is a revelation and not a damp squib.

I think Alistair Murray is the psychic's name, isn't it? That was on that message DI Hardy was reading just before the credits - info gleaned from the material off one of the boy's computers.

So one of those boys had been in contact with this guy - hence Tom's drastic attempt to obliterate the hard drive? But why?what messages had been passing?

                  Curiouser and curiouser.

No DM that is Steve Connelly....I think it is likely to be the friend Hardy rang to get the info from Toms Hard drive....

My thinking is that Toms dad is bald (as is Nige) and could have been the person bringing the body to the beach....

....they didn't look after Danny very well if he was out regularly poaching....and they had no idea....(but it might explain the money in his bed springs)

....Lots of CSI and interview bloopers last night....just for the sake of putting on a pair of rubber gloves....Susan was still not asked how she got the skate-board, where she found it....Vicar not asked WHICH parent was told about Danny/Tom fight....

The psychic's name is Steve Connelly. There is no Alistair Murray on the cast list as yet that I can see. The opening credits where the young boy's hand is dripping blood - could it in fact be red diesel (agricultural diesel is dyed red in case you townies don't know!) Also, who owns the murder hut? Is the butcher who receives the poached pheasants involved? Why does Nige have so many weapons? Why do both sets of parents not know about trips to the woods at night? (What about the cocaine under Chloe's bed (was that satisfactorily explained) and the £500 under Danny's bed?) Too many questions!!!
Edit: Oops, crossed with 8thObs. Vicar did say he told both sets of parents.

Indeed - and Miller indignantly denied all knowledge when Hardy mentioned it to her - assuming she's telling the truth, where does this leave the vicar? Perhaps he only told Tom's father....not clear.

                            As Mr Pee says.......

Yes just checked, "reported to both sets of parents", so leaves opening for Miller not having been told....

....It annoyed me that the Vicar scene didn't happen till after the third Ad break....whereas the Vicar would I believe have really (in real life) have reported it first thing in the morning....There are so many flaws in Police procedure and interviewing and natural human inquisitiveness in Broadchurch....(Like the newspaper finding out about Susan, the newspaper man, and Hardy's past....before police, in these days of the internet etc etc)....

Thanks for correction on psychic's name.

[a] What puzzles me is as Anna said above, all the money floating around. e.g. what was that packet [of money?] passed between Susan Wright and Baldy at the caravan door? Just for a job done?
[b] How did Danny have so much money - was it just poached game?
[c] Keep remembering that clip of the postman and Danny arguing?
                                But
[d] I think what may be crucial is that the Vicar says he told both sets of parents about the fight between the boys - BUT did he ONLY tell Tom's Dad and thought he'd thus told both Tom's parents? Quite a natural conclusion to draw, I'd say. But if he did, why would Tom's Dad keep it quiet? Maybe he didn't think it mattered - boys fight!
[e] I seriously do think Tom and Tom's Dad are deeply involved, and I'm attracted by the idea of Tom's Dad being bald and thus from a distance at night etcetc.........?
[f] My theory is Tom's Dad knows Tom actually did the killing - skateboard / dare / jealousy over money etc etc, son tells Dad, Dad seeks to protect his son by some night time boating to plant the body on the beach? If Danny had fallen off that cliff the body would have been mangled - it wasn't. So he must have been killed elsewhere and the body dumped.

                                So much to watch for.
