I thought last night's episode more than kept up the high standard of this series- we got a hint as to what David Tennant's previous misdemeanour might have been, whilst at the same time seeing a gradual warming of relations between his character and Olivia Coleman's. And what was with that weird SOCO guy asking her out? The scene seemed a bit odd and must have been there for a reason. Obivously Pauline Quirke's very creepy character has something to hide- but then it seems so does practically everybody!

What I really liked about last night was the way it portrayed the witch hunt mob mentality that can so easily be stoked up by newspapers. The poor old Sea Scout chap who was wrongly outed as a paedophile and hence became, in the eyes of the villagers, a serial abuser and murderer, a sequence of events that eventually led to his suicide. I felt great sympathy for his character.

I find this one of the most gripping series I've seen on terrestrial TV for quite some time- and I'm not usually a fan of murder mysteries!!

Did he jump to his death?

Or are you jumping to conclusions, Mr Pee?

SOCO Barry hasn't finished with that body yet, surely

          Good point Amateur!

          Perhaps not suicide after all!

(And now if you'll excuse me, after the shock of typing the first three words of that reply, I am off for a lie- down.....)

Oh my boys, my boys! United in crime!!

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I think young Tom is the one to watch. He clearly knows a lot more than he's let on so far (those deleted messages, surely about to come to light), and was showing an unhealthy interest this week in how long the killer was likely to get, in that conversation with his father.

                - my thoughts, too, Richard: the way he chatted to the Pauline Quirke character, which we're supposed to think was her trapping him - the way Hardy (and everyone) praised him for his reconstruction of the murdered boy's last night - all points to consider, meconsiders.

As I said before, the boy is the one to watch. As said above. He is being plumbed into the visuals at almost every critical junction stage in the narrative. Or he could be the dog-woman's next victim.

                    Hedging your bets. eh Draco!

I agree though - from the moment he deleted all those texts, he was in the frame, but whether as witness, accessory or "he knew too much" victim, only time will tell (and other clichés...)...

He mainly seems to want to ingratiate himself with the best-looking women. That bar scene put him in a very difficult position

Not really so odd - he has a terminal condition, can't blame him for wanting a bit of sex (possibly for the last time) before he shuffles off this mortal coil .....
Anyway, obviously Tom is deeply implicated, Nige and Dog Lady obviously have some sort of scam going, Danny's skateboard is in her cupboard but, going back to the first episode, a young boy was on the cliff top looking down over cut barbedwire with blood dripping from his fingers, was that anything to do with the theft of diesel, also where does the crossbow come into the equation?

I thought the boy on the cliff top was Danny, before he was killed.

And DI Hardy clearly has made a big mistake in a previous investigation- perhaps that was having a spot of rumpy-pumpy with a suspect or witness, as he has just tried to do with the hotelier.

What is his illness anyway? Do we know?
