This puzzled me as well, then I wondered if it was just a side door to the hotel for residents, the main entrance being locked as it was late? Or else we've both missed sometlhing.
I am definitely hooked (but the ads are driving me daft) and have no idea whodunnit, too many red herrings at the moment ... just hoping the ending justifies watching for eight episodes and isn't a neat cop out in the last 15 minutes like Dancing on the Edge was!

... and Olivia Coleman's pitch-perfect delivery of Miller's mock-grumpy response to her husband afterwards: "you and new bloody best friend" (or words to that effect)

... a wonderful, beguiling series that looked as if it was headed for an intense climax, when suddenly - everything was all right again! It was so disappointing: like having the slow movement of Bruckner's 8th with the Coda removed and replaced with Shave and a haircut: two bits!

No doubting acting and some of the dialogues quality....but some of the police methods do not pass creduity....(if there is such a word)....pool of blood out back of head and straight back to work....as you do....

I was watching on iPlayer and had to stop the player to take that in <shudder>

That's very disappointing about Nige - a man who knows his way around a U-bend AND can rustle up a mean roast beef dinner is worth his weight I'd say

Well Duckie - I reckon Caliban often provides such services as a strong arm around the shoulders Pro Bono
There's a Jules and Sand joke in there somewhere .........

                          Crumbs! YES!!

Pauline Quirke is a super actress, but her "psycho" side (remember her in The Sculptress? ) is truly insinuating!

Episode 5 had a good few surprises but I found the editorialising music more of an annoyance than previously.Three episodes to go, we need some firmer clues soon I reckon - what about the vicar who's also good at accounts?

Nige seems to be going a bit overboard too while Pauline Quirke is lining up young Tom for dog-walking duties, but is that all?
