    Richard Briers has died

Actor Richard Briers, best known for his role in TV's The Good Life, has died peacefully at his London home at the age of 79.

A wonderful comedy actor with a very distinctive voice that helped him to be a good reader of audiobooks too.

Hard to believe on such a sunny day.

Yes, very sad news. As well as 'The GoodLife' I have a DVD box of the complete 'Ever Decreasing Circles' an offbeat sort of comedy, also starring Peter Egan and Penelope Wilton.

    RIP RB

Sorry to hear of the death of Richard Briers - feel like he has been around right through my life - always had a soft spot for him.

Yes; but also a fine villain and "straight" actor, too. 79 is no age, either: his family deserved longer with him and his fans more of his splendid work.

Indeed - though his Tom Good is an indelible part of my childhood, Richard B was unforgettable as the villain in a 'Morse' episode, playing the truly loathsome and absurdly-named college master Sir Clixby Bream

            End of an era
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

              Merged now on General Arts.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Oh yes Caliban, I'd forgotten that Morse he did.He was so slimy and out of his usual persona, sign of a true actor.

                    Oh, how sad.

I remember him when he was at the Liverpool Playhouse, straight out of RADA I imagine. I was still at school, but went to every production with a group of friends. (I think it was monthly rep. Those were the days!) He was always very noticeable, and I'm pretty sure he played Hamlet at one point in those years.

The Good Life was briiliant, though Margot (Penelope Keith) always seemed like the star to me. I also have fond memories of Ever Decreasing Circles.

Although Ever Decreasing Circles was a ratgher weak series for RB, he still shone through it all. He wsa always very good at whgat he did. Monarch of the Glen is another good tv series he starred in.

I thought it was rather clever!

I first recall him in "The Marriage Lines" with Prunella Scales. I suppose that dates me a bit.

He was in an important way a major part of my daughter's early years - the cassette tapes of RB and Michael Horden as Jeeves and Wooster were the bedtime listening of choice for all of them.
