I haven't time to search for the link now, but there is a new S4C Welsh language detective series soon to be aired that a Danish production company have bought up which promises to do for Aberystwyth what Sarah Lund did for jumpers! I kid you not How weird is that, to have Welsh subtitled into Danish!!

There was a superb English-language Welsh detective series with the magnificent and much-missed Philip Madoc in the title role - I wish they'd show those every so often instead of yet another outing for the "Pudding Club" episode of Midsomer Murders. (I mean it's been shown about twelve times this year already! There are Midsomer Karaoke Societies who gather together, switch the sound off and perform the script from memory!)

The magnificent Madoc was the first and best Cadfael, too.


But, yes, a superb conclusion to an excellent series.

No, because it's not set in South Wales! North Wales has no truck with Dylan and whimsy. They plough a different furrow, language-wise!! It does sound interesting though.

Hardly North Wales, this series appears to be based on the West Wales coast.

The DVD set of the original is oft-played - Ian Richardson as Urquart one of the great creations of television

Had already flagged this series - looks very good indeed from the trailers I've seen. Spacey is one of the few people who could rival Richardson in the 'vile creep' stakes

Why in the name of all that's sensible do we need a Mercan version of this?

The Mercans had to refilm the Stig Larsson (The Girl Who...) series because Mercans don't like subtitles apparently ... and presumably they also keep the profit centres within the USA.

Why not? By all accounts it is a high quality production, and it will have been updated to reflect the contemporary political scene in the USA. And of course it stars Kevin Spacey, one of my absolute favourite actors.

Not everything need be preserved in aspic.

Interesting. I don't have Netflix either, but I do have the DVDs of the original, and I must say that I think Richardson will be hard to beat. I'm always a bit wary of remakes. I'm watching "Yes PM" on Gold at the moment, and I'm enjoying it, but I keep seeing and hearing the original cast, especially Nigel Hawthorne, in my mind's eye.

I see they discover "a grizzly body". That'll be a bear, then. If it's half as good as The Killing It'll be worth watching.
