Antiques Roadshow, 8pm on Sunday 18th Nov from Cornwall.

Alright, not high art but one of the best editions I have seen [if you can cope with Fiona Bruce]

Some wonderful old paintings and stories about them. Lots of family history and a beautiful setting for the programme.

    BBC1 -I should have said

It was good, wasn't it. I don't mind Ms Bruce in her Antiques Roadshow manifestation.

But if one more piece of Clarice Cliff tat is gushed over on that show, I'm out!!! I'd never heard of the stuff before watching AR, now there seems to be a piece on every time I watch

(*Dons tin hat and awaits the "Clarice Cliff" fan club*)

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I didn't see it, will catch on iplayer. I like Henry Scott Tuke but I assume the paintings were of his nautical scenes rather than the nude boys? I agree about Clarice Cliff (although I wouldn't mind finding a box of her work in the attic) but of her contemporaries I much prefer Charlotte Rhead, Susie Cooper I find rather insipid but she always sold better than Rhead. Moorcroft is another that gets gushing praise to the point of embarrassment I think. I like the new feature of the programme where you guess the value via the red button

There were some decorously arranged nude boys, as I recall... A sketch for a larger work. Plus a nautical scene and a portrait of a sea-faring lad (clothed ).

I tried the 'red button' game a couple of times. I think I got 4 right out of 17 or so - a 'law of averages' job. I'm hopeless.

You'll enjoy it Anna. An elderly Aunt gave me a thick milky looking eggcup that belonged to her late daughter.

After i'd washed it up in hot water and it fell apart I learned that it was Lalique. And there were some nude boys, if that's what your're looking for - tastefully posed though

Never mind, sal. It must have been cracked so wouldn't have been worth much - just a cracked glass egg-cup.

I did quite well out of Lalique ... sold it when I decided I didn't want anything valuable about the house. Neither breakable nor stealable. (Forgot about the car.)
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

We collect one of the ranges designed by Frederick Rhead, Charlotte's father.

(Can't tell you which one, as it might put the prices up!)

                (Oh, all right, then: Bagdad.)

Didn't get down to Falmouth that day - forgot it was on, but a friend of mine is due to be on the second part next Sunday. The valuation day was covered on Radio Cornwall and it sounded really good and thankfully we had a rare sunny day!

I hope it's safe to mention that I have a 40 piece Shelley tea service which should be worth a lot.I once called in a dealer who lives locally - the gist was if it were garish yellow and orange flowers, etc it would be worth more than what I have, plain white china with a black, white and gold narrow border.Ah well, justmy luck
