What are these Russians doing in London ....do their visa stipulate that they must do an artist act to validate their presence as artists ....or get kicked out....have they overstayed their visa....graffitti tagging is no better than 'Kilroy was here'....
GG yes ....Vandalism can be a statement....but it is not necessarily art....it is only part of DISCOURSE....but this was just Pure Vadalism for fame and £££££'s....(and now the tax payer will have to fork out for hopefully 2 years in jail)
I think there are interesting things to think about with regard to the commodification of artistic ideas. NOT that I am suggesting that this was a good idea, but it is interesting that in the media there has been a condemnation of this and an attempt to somehow see it as separate from "historical" art movements that have advocated similar actions. Is it because Rothko (and artist of whom many of us rate very highly indeed) has become so much part of mainstream visual culture ?
again I wouldn't condone this in any way
but
"Vandalism" can create art........
I'm all in favour of Prince Charles remaining Victorian by all appearances, without any makeover.
