    Hunt out, Miller in

And then there's the new Culture Secretary who gives her political interests as 'housing, education and media'. Background in PR, marketing, advertising...

[Ed: Now separated from thread on Arts Council - ff]

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

For all his (many) faults, I did see the outgoing one at the Proms last week.

Is there a Minister for the Arts? That would seem a much more important (to us) post. Culture, Media and Sport relegates the arts to an undefined bit of Culture.

And here's what @chiggi reminds us about.

And more doom at the prospect of Miller. The next BBC Charter Review is in about 2015. Who knows what to pray for among the few election possibilities?

The answer appears to be, No, not exactly.

But there is Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Culture, Communications and Creative Industries)

        Leads on:

        Arts
        Museums and Galleries
        Media
        Telecoms and Broadband
        Digital Switchover
        Creative Industries
        Libraries

Subject to any change in the reshuffle: it is/was Ed Vaizey. Hmmm.

          Marvellous!

Fewer women and gay men in the Cabinet, a law minister with no legal qualifications, a health minister who's a fan of homeopathy, it really couldn't be better

And the big elephant in the room? Francis Maude - nary a comment. He sits undisturbed, slashing away at the civil service

And the first time in 15 years that all 27 have been white!!!!

Gay men - Laws to Education. Every other gay man on the Government benches should have been given precedence over him.

Women - Justine Greening to International Development. A victim. Should by rights be the leader of the Conservative Party.

Fiddling parliamentary expenses pays dividends. Hard work and sticking to principles doesn't pay at all.

Maude - Somehow I'd momentarily forgotten him. A very dangerous individual. Bad news that he is still in post.

Hunt - Consistently useless and occasionally highly questionable. Not a fan of the NHS. Hence promoted to Health.

Grayling - Started in the SDP. Now seemingly attempting to become as right wing as was David Waddington.

Elsewhere, the Green Belt is increasingly at risk as Pickles and others remain where they have been.

Miller - Hardly know her. Mainly an advertising background. Don't like the appointment at all on paper. BBC beware!

,,, as Connolly said of Mexican nosh, it is the same old hash, just re-folded
According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

As some bright spark remarked on Toady this morning, Hunt's associations with the Murdoch empire done him no harm.

Maria Miller is quite a smooth operator on the basis of this clip.

Ironically, she reminds me a little of Caroline Thomson and there's a bit of Clare Balding in her demeanour too.
