Yes - I greatly enjoyed the twists and turns in episode 2, but was struck by the "deliberate" scripting of Hastings' "darling" - I can't remember his ever used this sort of vocabulary when addressing women (formally or in-) in the earlier series. It "clunked" a bit.

Yes I noticed that about Hastings. Also the way he dealt with the SIO. No one is innocent........?

Sexism in the police force is one of the underlying themes in this series, so it was probably added to re-enforce that.

Thanks for the Netflix tip! Might just give Series 1 another go, a lot of significances you only realise in retrospect.

I've now watched Series 1 & 2 on Netflix - very good indeed and yes, Keeley Hawes is exceptional. I did find the final episode of Series 2 a slight let-down, whereas the penultimate episode (5) was one of the most exciting bits of telly I've seen lately.

And I've just discovered that Series 3 is still on iPlayer in its entirety (presumably why it's not yet been released to Netflix). It seems to get a slightly worse press above; but I'm going to watch that before continuing Series 4 (still only got the first episode of that under the belt so far - I shall have to be circumspect in following this thread for the moment, to avoid spoilers!).

Usual Spoiler Warning:

Lots of possibilities here - that they're going to do a Broadchurch/No Offence "good Lord! It was the detective's spouse all along!" shocker; but it's too early in the series, I'd've thought. So maybe the twist is that (unlike the other Brch & N Off) the detective knew all along and her activities have been concerned with covering up the traces of her husband's guilt. Or maybe it isn't the Lee Wotsits character after all - detectives from one police series appearing as the villain in another has become something of a cliché - but then, who else could it be in that building? Good, shocking stuff: I think we can rule out the pregnant WPC - unless her "bump"
is a bluff: I rather think her pregnancy is just a set-up for a rather horrible plot-twist later in the series.

Yes - totally agree that the end of the episode was totally unexpected and gripping. And Broadchurch remains pretty good, too.


Anyone else watch All4's The Team - fantastic series, but peetered out at the end, I thought: and did I miss something, or was the substory of the "beaten wife" detective just left hanging in mid-air?

Well, seasons 1, 2 and 3 now all watched within the space of a fortnight...

We'd somehow contrived to overlook this series ... so downloaded five episodes and were hooked enough to have to watch the whole lot in
in one sitting, finishing at 1.30 am last Saturday. And we were having to get up again at 6.00 am for work.

Completely understood! Torn the whole way through between wolfing down multiple episodes at a sitting, and leaving some excitement and pleasure for the next day...

The advantage of nailing all three seasons back to back was, I think, that the larger arcs of the plot were very coherent...

The "sickening" (I agree) aspect of the baddies "getting away with it" (and the background of "Dot") was what made the series so strong for me

.... not least "Dot", from one of Gates's swaggering sidekicks in the first episode of all, to the bitter end of season 3. And although I did find the last part of season 2 a slight let-down, like DracoM...

I just miss the whole Keeley Hawes character's SL being swept away. People in power who didn't want to look too closely at what she had discovered about AC12. Very unsatisfactory ending to that series IMO.

... being able to carry through at once with season 3 made one realise that the 'ending' to season 2 wasn't an ending at all, just a prelude to the virtuosic knitting together of everything in season 3, with Keeley Hawes very much not swept away. The 3 seasons are in fact one big 17-episode series, in effect.

I actually found in this context that the 90 minute finale was terrific, the mayhem unleashed by that legendary text "Urgent Exit Required" was perfectly cathartic.

Craig Parkinson as "Dot" was faultless, ditto the three main AC-12 actors. As for Keeley Hawes: words fail me

Next week: a re-watch of Season 4 episode 1 and then the rest, to come back up to date (then I can start reading the last few pages of this thread!)
