But Series 1 had its equivalent Hammer House of Horror moment (at the end of episode 2, actually Richard) - it's obviously the writer's style to lull viewers into a state of tension with patient cat-and-mouse detective work and then hit the horror button.

Watchable stuff, that's for sure.

I was thinking of this, at the end of series 2 episode 1 - SPOILER ALERT don't click on the link if you haven't got there yet, or on this (series 3 episode 1). Beginning to look like a formula.

Netflix announced last week that they had series 3 as well. They sent out an email a few days later that they hadn't.

I agree that the ending of series 3 was rather (rather???) far fetched, but it was worth it for the interview scene that preceded the 'urgent exit'.

- there is so much that was good about that series, that the way they decided the "urgent exit" was going to be written seems even more bizarre. Even so, I preferred the first two series - a revelation to me that Keeley Hawes could act so well!

Really ferney? A revelation?! Did you see The Missing? That and LoD2 and 3 all powerful performances, I'd have said, an actress with real range . I was less fussed about Ashes to Ashes, but more because of the series. She was excellent in The Durrells, too . I didn't watch, er, Tipping the Velvet.

Well, no, I didn't - but even if I had, the LoD series 2 would still have been a revelation, as it was broadcast seven months before The Missing!

(I don't think she was "excellent" in The Durrells, by the way - but then I don't think that a cast of the very finest actors in the world could've done much with that script!)

Oh! Hold on! I did see the recent series of The Missing - Keeley Hawes wasn't in the first series, I see - and yes, she was very good. But, as this was screened a couple of years after LoD series 2, the revelation had already happened. Her work before LoD2 hadn't led me to expect such a powerful performance - I have completely changed my opinion of her since LoD. (I think she spoilt the first series of Ashes to Ashes, for example.)

I like LoD but I'm suspicious they're using the same setup as in previous seasons, .....I look forward to being proved wrong. Keeley Hawes is a *****y good actress imho btw.

I'm really enjoyng watching the new series. Someone expressed the opinion to me that that Thandie Newton was wooden in the role of Detective Chief Inspector Roz Huntley. Ummmm! I tend to agree.

It’s frustrating watching how easy it is for police officers in the series (and many other different programmes) to access the forensic department. I’m surprised forensics has not been privatised or maybe some of it has.

I've found Thandie Newton's performance as Roz Huntley extraordinary: her face a rictus of stress, tension and its attempted disguise-as-control, the self-awareness of her own pressured wrongdoing, of those mistaken judgments and actions which led her into criminal action and its covering-up; even as she had aspired to a high position in the upholding of truth and justice.
