    Series Six (2021)

    Anybody watching this?

I binge-watched all the previous series over lockdown... but I'm finding this one a bit dull, as though the actors are not quite relating to each other. Also the script, and storyline, is extra heavy with police procedural and jargon, leaving little room, IMV for character and relationships.

      .

... 'er indoors is still watching it : I've given up.

Compared to the incomparable Unforgotten - and even to 'documentaries' such as 24hrs in Police Custody - it is so crass, up itself, too earnest, taking itself too seriously, wooden acting, absurd and yet predictable plotting...

Yes, but underwhelmed also. It has the feel of ‘telly by numbers’, the formula tick-boxed.... pulsing tense music: ‘tick’.... whimsical Irish catch-phrases from main copper: ‘tick’.... solitary chief suspect with secrets and complexes: ‘tick’.... &c. &c.

Nowhere near the level of the much less hyped Unforgotten where Nicola Walker & Sanjeev Bhaskar make the AC-12 lot look like wooden puppets in comparison

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Is it right the whole team have inexplicably been transferred to N. Ireland? Who was scheming against whom for what purposes was the one thing that kept me gripped last time around, but this move is one too far for me, making the essential disbelief suspension to accommodate a local already overloaded with issues of its own, which presumably are sidelined, quite literally beyond the pale.

... I don't think the Pale ever extended as far north as Ulster - and historically it was over-and-done-with before the absurdities of AC-12 began -

I'm enjoying 'Line of Duty'. I like the return of old characters like Terry and Ryan to remind of unfinished scores. There's a cop called Chris in it and when he is wearing a mask, I'm convinced he sounds like Dot - the best caddy ever. Bit overuse of police shortcuts but it's good practice in reminding me, and my Local Government colleagues, to speak in plain English and keep to attention when talking to General Public. I have a slight issue with Kelly MacDonald as, when I hear her talking I keep expecting Lorraine Kelly to appear; but generally I'm happy to stick with it. I loved 'Unforgotten' - hadn't seen any before, but will now go back and watch previous series.

2nd epi this series and the close interviews clarified a heck of a lot and was gripping TV.

Thanks to the various commendations on this thread I'm watching series 3 of Unforgotten - which I'd never come across before today. Really enjoying it and agree with comments here: the acting and script knock spots off LoD! Thanks to all for the heads up.

I’ve seen series 1-5. I think LoD peaked with series 3, which was outstanding and emotionally involving (very rare for me to get emotionally involved in anything these days, least of all a telly programme). 4 was nowhere near as good and all I can recall of 5 was a horribly graphic throat-cutting.

Another thrilling episode tonight, with another cliff-edge finish...I'm still managing to suspend my disbelief...and great to see the return of the horrible Anna Maxwell Martin. Slightly different than she is in Motherland.

Cliffhangers like ep 5 are just too cruel! I even tried the green button just in case!

I thought ep 1 did seem to be going through the formulaic motions, but this series has just got better and better, slowly tightening its grip as the story twists and tenses. Writing, directing, acting - all top class. Vicky McClure given a great & strengthened solo role this time out, and carries it off brilliantly.
