Agree on both counts, Calum - a superb performance, which I described on the Salamander thread as "career-changing": it certainly transformed my opinion of her acting abilities (which, I'm sure, will be good news to her ).

As for needing a replay - yes, me, too. I regard this as a sign of the series' strength, that ideas could be revisited from different perspectives and in the light of what happened subsequently. It's just like Literature.

In the end, of course, the AC-12 unit HAD to make sure DI Denton went down for a very long time. She knew too much, she had come this close to outing far more in the force than she knew round her and Dot was the chiefest villain who ended up with a grateful and self-congratulatory smile and promotion and an unharmed network of willing-to-pay / corrupt / kill accomplices inside and outside the force.

One of the most terrifying TV series in terms of implications I have ever seen, and all the more chilling since it ended so downbeat, with sighs of relief from so many behind poker-faces.

Actually, Fleming and Arnott think they are the winners, but in fact they know almost nothing about the conspiracy to murder the protected witness and were skilfully distracted to pursue other and less useful targets to avoid discovery. Hmm.

Dot knows, of course, Dryden knows, that Sergeant knows, the two who did the shooting at the ambush know, 'Tommy', Akers knew, BUT many of the rest have no idea of the full detail and implications - at least that's the way I took it.

        interesting discussion for aficionados
According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

            Series 3 episode 1

I don't know who played Sgt Danny Waldron in the first episode of the new series of 'Line of Duty' but the guy deserves some kind of award. A stunning chilling performance in what I can only say was the most thrilling sixty minutes of TV I have seen in many a long year. If the rest of the series is anything like the opener then we're in for a total barnstormer.
Sergeant Danny Waldron and his armed response team shoot dead a hardened criminal.

I just miss the whole Keeley Hawes character's SL being swept away. People in power who didn't want to look too closely at what she had discovered about AC12. Very unsatisfactory ending to that series IMO.

This series just gets better and better...two episodes in series 3 to go and the tension rises all the time; and KH totally chilling performance one of so much to enjoy in this excellent programme.

Blimey! Yes. The perfectly set up cliffhanger - I have no idea how the series will end: it could go in so many directions from the glib "happy ending" (which I very much doubt!) to the thoroughly bleak (which I'm sort-of expecting, but think that the writer will have something brilliant that I'd never have thought up in years ready to shock me next week). Cor!!!

An hour and a half finale next week - there are (acc to Radio Times) two of those interview scenes, and a "thumping ending".

Superlative acting throughout. A creepy turn from George Costigan, who played Nevison Gallagher in Happy Valley.

I totally agree, jc. It's by far the best written and acted drama on TV at the moment. Recent Scandi-noir has been disappointing, and I think Undercover despite its starry cast a real missed opportunity, everything hideously gentrified compared with the gritty and outsider world of the victims of the real-life undercover stories.

....it is so long since Series 2 that I'm a bit lost on some of the back story/characters....it is a brillant effort.....those linking scenes where they stare down from the balcony have been a bit over used, BUT, it churns onward....
