altogether wonderful
Already a salutary lesson not to stand random ladies a Calva near the Palais de Justice"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Weird ending: central two incriminated, Escoffier [spoiler alert] manifestly in jail for yonks, smiling Laure with distant baby-shot? Erm...?
So is it Ali to take over?
And the MANY police higher-ups who were far more deeply involved in the whole Herville case than appeared at first sight. Looked to me like a LOT were out to offload onto Escoffier big time? AND relieved that someone other than them had diligently over-exerted in solving the Herville / Chinese stuff...........erm.......???
Graceful departure of Roban - how can he ever re-appear in another series?
Karlsson...proto lesbian affaire with ex-cell-mate??? Edelman plainly crooked as hell............crikey?
I mean where the heck do you take a Series 8 after that bowl of poisonous gruel?

I watched episode 12 for a second time. There were many moving moments, skilfully filmed and directed. A lot of endings, of different kinds. Resolving who had kiled Herville, in the end, was a footnote to what happened to relationships.
I keep remembering the line someone said about Laure and Gilou - 'their relationship is indesctuctible'.
I hope we don't have to wait too long for season 8!

I watched a bit of the first episode last night - and will return, never having seen the first season before. They all looked so much younger!
There are quite a number of threads where I don't go (have to allocate my time....).
It has been spotted on the Recommended TV thread - We're looking forward to watching series 1 to (I think) 3 which had been broadcast before we started watching Spiral and on a quick sample of Series1 episode 1 yes - they looked so much younger. It will be a pleasure! And we'll concurrently watch series 8 as well.
Originally posted by Cockney Sparrow View PostWe’ve been watching “Vanished by the Lake” and then “Killer by the Lake" on All 4 – French, with subtitles. (Mrs CS is improving her French and we had been due to visit Lake Annecy and holiday in the area in May…). Not too gruesome, in comparison with the scandi-noir etc and we enjoyed the general setting and production.
But of course (in the 2nd series) we were aware of typical herrings – all of which were red and found ourselves shouting “why would a single female detective………… on her own!” at the screen before reminding ourselves that its “just entertainment” – like Hollywood.
We decided to have a rest before “Fear by the Lake” - but then, I’ve noticed here that we can watch series 1 to 3 of Spiral. Given that often we watch an 1 hour per day + Evening news that’s our viewing sorted for a while…..
And now it looks like DNA will be worth a look - thanks - we will have to fit them in on their unavailable dates in the iPlayer.
