Some very interesting stuff here from those of an historical mind, cause for some study.

Meanwhile, regarding the errors noted, Paxo's insistence on a 'line' etc, I wonder if as much as anything, Paxo is trying to get 'his' series in before Marr does? This is the first Paxo series that I have watched, and I have found Marr's series on modern Britiain to be very partial and lazy historically, I just wonder how much competition between 'personalities' goes on at BBC TV - perhaps ff knows more about this?

I'm not bothering with Paxo as I have the 22.5 hour Radio 4 series This Sceptred Isle - Empire written by Christopher Lee. To my mind this is a model of how such things should be done.

....I should think ....'Take as much as you possibly can', is a pretty simple, straight-forward and transferable order and plan over the decades....<nodding in the Indian fashion>....

....yep eighthO just like slime mould spreading around the crumbs on the table and you end up with a map of the Tokyo metro ... [disturbingly with another route that looks obvious once seen but does not in fact exist] the excitement of the mould attracts more mould to the source as in 'over here chaps fill yer boots' ... helped by all those ships and men in tights of course ... and then of course there is the rival gangster mode as well ... if we don't the French will! [through the millennia the rallying cry of English Gangsters Class (Royal & Noted Families etc) ... ]

my main niggle about all this imperial malarkey is any suggestion that we should now apologise for it .... well the Royal Family & aristos can for all i care but the brit upper class was screwing my ancestors as fiercely as any one else's wherever they were ... in that respect they did not discriminate too much at all seems to me .... and their descendants carried on pretty much up unti the Atlee Government and social reform here married to the first step back from imperial grasp eh .... strange that innit ....

It's 'the men in tights ' what did it initially....the poor natives hanging free must have been a position of almost certain disentangling disadvantage....

            ....sorry

            ....'imperial grasp'....<narf narf><whistle>
