Oh - I never miss Midsomer Murders (or Death in Paradise, for that matter) - in fact, last year, the best thing that happened on my birthday was a brand new episode of MM. The day didn't go exactly as I'd hoped!

FINALLY - a decent story for the finale of the series last night!

Yes - a proper story. Don't buy the departure of "Miss Thursday" but otherwise, a cracker.

The errors pinpointed above didn't trouble me (but then I went to Fenland Polytechnic, so they wouldn't, would they? )

I've just listened several times to the final scene, nowhere in the score could I hear any reference to the Beatles' song (to which I also listened twice to make sure)... but then realised, it's just the plot (obviously) which draws from the lyric.

Remiss of Pheloung not to build in some melodic reference to the song, no?

Another unironic vote for MM, ferney - tho I haven't got further than the trailers for Death in Paradise and Homeland (too close to home, as a conservationist I can't look at the Welsh uplands, which seem to feature strongly, without thinking about overgrazing by sheep ).

Did you know MM is huge in Scandinavia, especially Denmark?

Pleasurable too for the roster of fine actors - just about everybody has appeared in it at some time or other, as suspect or victim

Yes - I remember the "special edition" (the 100th programme?) from 3 or 4 years ago which had the entire cast of Borgen and The Killing as guest stars

Pleasurable too for the roster of fine actors - just about everybody has appeared in it at some time or other, as suspect or victim

Some even returning as a different character in another story - so they could be both!

I last saw MM when Bergerac was solving the crimes .... maybe I'll have another look. I confess I watched Death in Paradise at the start when Ben Miller was the lead and thought it rather good but didn't continue when Kris Marshall took over and it got very silly.

I've just found the concepts / characters / settings of both series too icky-sweet to allow disbelief to be suspended - and all have lead actors I find unappealing and unconvincing.

Yes - the third-rate Closseau antics spoil it, but they're cutting down on these. I think the iguana must have asked fro a pay rise, though - s/he's been written out of this series.

Anyone watching this? Having given up on Sherlock this has been Sunday evening viewing here. I've been trying to catch a glimpse of my younger self - at last! - the Kinks were name-checked, I saw them in Oxford in 1969. Otherwise the scriptwriters rummaged through the late '60s prop box, for a Brian Jones-like band member channeling Baudelaire in broad-brimmed hat, a manager who wouldn't let it be known a band-member had a wife, a sitar, Beatles-style uniforms, Oz....and a creepily accurate take on Mrs Whitehouse from the excellent Sylvestra le Touzel.... Harmless fun, with an unexpected outburst of emtion from young Morse at the very end hinting at things to come....
