    'Endeavour' ITV 1

I'm so glad I decided to watch this - I thought it was excellent in every respect. Colin Dexter's brief appearance suggests that it also met with his approval. I'm not ashamed to admit that I had a lump in the throat at that shot of the rear-view mirror as they were waiting for the lights to change.

Totally agree - good story, well acted and with just enough "teasers" for Morse fans without clogging up the story. I especially liked John Thaw's daughter as the Newspaper Editor saying "Have I met you before? Another life, perhaps." Anachronistic, perhaps, but a lovely tribute to the old and new.

Yes, that was a nice touch. I hope there'll be further episodes.

I'm afraid my reaction to the rear mirror shot was much closer to tears than lumps in throat. A very worthwhile way to spend two hours, with the very affectionate references to the 'real' Morse. I thought that, as a production, it was superior to the recent Lewis spin-offs and possibly better than the later non-Dexter Morse episodes. I do hope that there will be some follow-up episodes.

Sean Evans outstanding - now if HE'd been Pip in the BBC GE......?
Very good cast and I do hope this signals an ITV series.

              One of my favourite actors

Got this recorded for watching tomorrow. Encouraging comments!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Sartorially and in other matters the details were pretty true to 1964 - the year I left school and was therefore on the lookout for clothes trends. Anyone notice the hats in the milliner's shop window on chrome hat stands? One forgets things like that.

The school uniform worn by the girls struck me as very accurate - in all its gruesome detail.

Yes, this is going to be mandatory watching. One thing, though, I'd be surprised if the Oxford Mail circa 1964 would label it Todays Crossword without the apostrophe.

I liked the Larkin reference by the landlady (Mr Bleaney)

a real treat but a one off alas .... the intellectual arrogance of Morse and his writing off of clues was a great touch .... i thought Fred Thursday could stand a series
According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

I thought it was excellent, period feel spot-on. Alison Graham in RT always prefaces any mention of Roger Allam with "the sublime" - she's not wrong.
