I can't share Anna's enthusiasm on this occasion. It had its moments, but I thought it more a triumph of style over substance with a very thin plot. I hope for better things in the remaining episodes, meanwhile it's back to Clive Merrison on Radio 4 Extra.

Well there's a big difference between a single track and a twin track tunnel.

Maybe Londoners would think your station -

      is like my station -

Now, that's more like it! Decent, brisk pace - well-constructed plot and mystery, loads of brilliant comedy and the warmth between the three main characters. Either the hogmonay hangover has really cleared upo, or tonight's episode was back in the terretory I'd felt in the first two series.

(By the way - Sherlock and Saga as a couple? So much in common?)

Hype or not, that was great telly. I found myself sitting with a big grin on my face for large parts. I like Mary - she's good.

Cracking episode and the BBC are prepared to push the boat out just to get Lara Pulver back for a five second scene !

                    Egregious froth and juvenility.
                    Surprised at Cumberbatch.

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I thought it was brilliant, a real rollercoaster, really funny and terribly moving re the relationship between Sherlock and Watson - and I bet I wasn't the only one with a tear in my eye on a couple of occasions .... For those who missed it, a repeat this Friday on BBC3.

(Interestingly, the method of murder was the same as that which befell Empress Elisabeth of Austria when she was assassinated by an anarchist)

... and there was I, wrongly guessing that the guardsman's murder wd have been carried out by that corniest of things - a dagger of ice that wd have melted in the heat of the shower...

You're not the only one - but, as my considerably-better-half pointed out, there was still the problem of how such a weapon would have got into the locked shower (and how it was kept as ice until it reached the shower room).
