Yesterday's Radio 4 Extra broadcast of The Empty House (which is now available on the iPlayer) marks the beginning of a repeat run of The Return of Sherlock Holmes at 11.15am and 9.15pm daily (except for Monday next).

As for Sherlock I enjoyed it greatly, improbabilities and all. In general, I think the modern setting works rather well; and on top of that, the show gets closer to the Holmes/Watson relationship than most other versions, and for me it's that relationship that's at the heart of the stories. Which is not to say that there aren't things that I would have done differently, of course. And I'd like to think that there's still a place for a period-set version steeped in gaslight and fog and horse-traffic in a London that's on the cusp between the old world and the modern, with two younger actors in the leads, starting (as did Sherlock) with Holmes and Watson's first meeting but also at a time before Holmes has established himself. If any TV producers are reading, I'd be delighted to send you my pilot script and series breakdown...

I suspect that some of the London Underground filming, including the screenshots shown above, took place at the Charing Cross Jubilee line platforms. These are no longer used for normal train services, but remain operational. They have been used for filming in the past (I think they featured in an episode of Spooks, for example).

I did greatly enjoy this episode though. The mode of Holmes' "resurrection" has still not been revealed according to the Graun.

Actually, as the one who brought up the anomaly, I don't live in London, and never have done.

It reminds me of the scene in Mission Impossible with a twin-track Channel tunnel and no electric wires.

I loved it, as I have the whole series so far. Whip-sharp dialogue, perfectly delivered, beautifully and imaginatively directed, with humour, action, and enough twists and turns to keep me on the edge of my seat. Add in Mark Gatiss's wonderful Mycroft, and Andrew Scott's frightening and sinister portrayal of Moriarty, and it really is one of the best things the BBC has produced in ages.

I watched it last night. I thought it was brilliant, very funny, (as in Mrs Hudson's reaction to Watson saying he'd met someone - Oh, what's his name?) and the restaurant scene and I like the exploration of the relationship between Sherlock and Watson. I think it's best not to take it too literally and, for those who don't live in London and use the underground, well one tube station is much like another! There's obviously something suspect about Molly's boyfriend though - cannot wait for next episode on Sunday, and who the new villain is but I'm already feeling it's such a shame there are only three episodes and then probably another wait of two years. Such a witty and intelligent drama!
(I had re-watched the last episode of the last series and also the red button prequel to get up to speed)

Don't get me wrong I think it is great but the expectations were raised to such a pitch by the last series that i was just a trifle disappointed . Then again it has always been a bit uneven. The Hound of the Baskervilles was also a bit of a come down after the spectacularly brilliant Scandal in Bohemia.
