The series seems to me to be going from strength to strength, unmissable now after 6 episodes...

Has anyone noticed a quirky musical link with a British TV detective classic?

In the wonderful Joan Hickson "Miss Marple" films, whenever she had an important thought about the mystery, Hickson would look into the middle distance and one would hear the first three notes of the theme tune.... so-do-do (on solo flute, if memory serves).

In the Killing, when the penny (or rather the øre) drops for Lund, she also gazes into the middle distance, and one hears three notes - on piano this time: a falling minor third, I think, then back to the first note (then repeated in sequence at a lower register). It happens two or three times per episode.

I wonder if it's a conscious tribute or just a coincidental device?

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Hadn't noticed the arpeggios, Caliban. I'll look out for that. But I have noticed she makes mistakes when she got the wrong jumper on!

And if she combined it with The Wrong Trousers she'd be a Cracking Gromit! I didn't see the first series so am a bit confused but sticking with it. I'm sure it'll become clearer.

I loved the wedding scene where she abandoned her role as MC - where was her son? - kissed her mother and said 'Sorry got to get back to work'. Possibly slightly OTT but almost to be expected of Lund.

I think the music is terrific. I don't know the Miss Marple films well enough to comment on Caliban's thought, but there is a moody bit of recurrent low string music which I think recalls Twin Peaks....

A great observation and suggestion, Caliban!

Are you following The Killing, Ams? Look out for it!

I assume you followed the fabulous Hickson "Marple" films?

Oh! and there's the marvellous moment in the first Rutherford "Marple" film ("Murder, She Said") when the sainted Margaret arrives at the 'big house' and is admitted by the crabby housemaid.... played by Joan Hickson. Rutherford mutters something about the 'younger generation' ....

Is it just me, or does the Miss Marple Theme (TV; not Ron Goodwin's) remind anyone else of the Blackadder Theme?

shan't say whodunnit but 9 & 10 left me a bit breathless as ageing nut struggled to hold all the twisting bits of the plot in any sort of coherence .... but the final denouement was tingling even tho you knew she just had to be .....

a secret is a secret is a secret huh?
According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

And get her to buy a pair of grey flannels, I'd have thought: given your avatar, I'm assuming she's bagged the trouser rôle

(What an odd married couple Stringer and Margaret were, weren't they?! Sort of Ealing version of Richard Bonynge and Joan Sutherland... )

What a unique vision you have, Caliban!

                            Leastways I'm hoping it's unique

Sara, Brix, The Rev. & Mrs Smallbone, the verger, the archdeacon and their tiny but loyal congregation - God Bless them every one! (And that goes for all fellow 'AA' addicts).

I'm so glad I was persuaded by people here to watch The Killing! I see (according to wiki) series III is being filmed but not scheduled for transmission in Denmark until September 2012. So it seems we'll have quite a while to wait ..... but I thought the announcer said it would be in the New Year? I wish now that I'd seen the first series ........
