A good age. Thanks, beautiful fountain maker.

One of my first musical loves thanks to Uncle Mack. Was playing some of his tunes to my old Mum last week. She loved him. He was a wonderful hero.

I had the (10"?) LP called, I think, Songs of the Caribbean, and also a single of either the Banana Boat Song or Island in the Sun. I have a feeling all the politics/activism passed over my head at the time, in fact I don't think I was particularly struck by the fact that he was black either. I never got many new records at all at that time so must have been impressed by Belafonte
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Harry Belafonte went on to many great achievements; I always remember this early one -

A choral accompaniment and faster tempo differentiate this from Harry’s more commonly-available later version included in the million-selling LP “Belafonte” ...

I'd forgotten that was a Belafonte song - but disconcerted to find I remembered all the words

Just looked and I have only 2 tracks of his, Scarlet ribbons and Venezuela. A lovely voice as well as his cheery calypso music.
