Lamont Dozier, Motown Legend dies at 81

What a legacy Lamont Dozier has left us alongside his co-writers, the Holland brothers, at Motown. The name in brackets under a song saying Holland Dozier Holland was a mark of quality. Thanks for all the great tunes.
As one third of Holland–Dozier–Holland, the Detroit musician was responsible for some of Motown’s biggest hits of the 1960s

I never realized that he collaborated with Phil Collins

So we lament Lamont. I did not realise that his collaboration with the Holland brothers had ceased as early as 1973 but then most of thegreat H-D-H songs were the Motown 60s hits, before DR decided that she was too good for the Supremes!

HDH left Motown in the late sixties. Their first hit on their own was Band Of Gold by Frieda Payne

Lamont Dozier - Such a talented song writer. Hit after hit, after hit!
            An undervalued soul singer too.

Heard a short tribute to Lamont this morning on radio - The Elgins 'Heaven Must Have Sent You'; Four Tops 'Reach Out I'll Be There';; The Supremes 'Come See About Me'; Junior Walker & allSTARS 'Roadrunner'; Martha Reeves and the Vandellas 'Heat Wave'; R. Dean Taylor 'There's A Ghost In My House'. Say no more...and they could have chosen a myriad others.

I didn't know that he had written 'Going Back to My Roots', a song that Richie Havens did a wonderful version of. But here's Lamont's own version which is mighty fine.
