Revealing, perhaps, that the above seems to be the only mention of 'Lady of Heaven' on here (apologies if my search efforts have overlooked any others). Maybe followers of the arts are inured to this, or merely prefer to look the other way. Three decades after the Rushdie saga, our response remains the same. More appeasement. This won't end well.

.... like Sherwood this subject will eventually touch a TV commissioners desk....would be thought provoking and would not need the sensational plot twists of Sherwood....

....I live close to Bradford - it is an interesting place and full of ambiguities then and now....but would the Blasphemies still cause uproar, still cause mistrust, still be misunderstood....

....When I first moved to Bradford area in late 80's (when funding for Arts was quite good, and youth u/e was high and YOP's allowed Circus Skills to be a pathway) for about 10 years the Bradford Mela took place (Theatre/Music/Circus skills, all sorts and in curated venues) ....t'was fantastic especially for children and young families/families....Bradford has character in many way....come and see the Victorian Mills before they are burned down in Insurance scams....or made into Cannabis farms

I don't think it's just 'followers of the arts' that look the other way. You'll find that people who are usually very noisy about items of current affairs (and cakes) fall silent on grave threats to democracy such as this. There's nowt so queer as folk......

....sorry I grabbed the wrong quote from Study Session, so my #17 may seem out of place [nothing unusual for me]

I'd have thought this board would be a-buzz after the attempt on Rushdie's life on Friday....

... but seriously, no I didn't. Not for a minute.

Fascists use violence to avoid debate - Islam is little different.

                You misspelt 'Islamism'.

As have the other two A/Ibraha/imic religions in their time, no?

correct - in fact one still does - but the comment doesn't excuse current practice in I think all Islamic countries.

no - many countries that claim Islam as their state religion seem to devolve to fascism - something in the belief system?.

Or perhaps something in the particular form of Islam that these countries take? For example, Wahhabism in Saudi Arabia (all with Western backing I might add).

I found it more than disappointing, your anti-Islamic knee-jerk response to Study Session; the sort of crudely blurted out reaction one would expect from any right-wing rag. I wonder what reaction someone might have on this forum if they openly tied Judaism and Jewish people in general to the actions of Israel.
