Let's hope for more live coverage of music and theatre.

Although I find her manner abrasive, she's probably got what it takes to do a good job, but it will depend upon what her real boss allows.

Yes: she has a first in music from Oxford as well as other qualifications. Intellectually, I'd guess she's more than up to the job, and the fact that she's applied, let alone been appointed, suggests that she'd be capable of fighting her corner at a time when it will be tough holding such a portfolio. (So a little carborundum won't go amiss.)

And we'll hear less of her on the programmes?

Unless we end up hearing clones of her "punchy" style......

"BBC Radio 3 will announce plans for Essential Classics in the coming weeks."
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

It seems Alan Davey may have had his power reduced, and Suzy may be a long-term rival.....possibly::

Alan Davey will continue his leadership role in Classical music - including the commissioning of new music - as Controller of Radio 3, the BBC’s Orchestras and Choirs, and The BBC Proms. He will work closely with Patrick, Suzy and the wider teams to ensure that classical music increases its impact for audiences using all the resources available to the BBC.

Not sure about that. Unlike his predecessor he's never had any input as far as television is concerned. RW was chair of something called the 'Classical Music Board' which was supposed to coordinate classical music broadcasts over radio and television, but the board was abolished and Roger didn't get the new post of BBC Director of Music.

After what seemed like a highly promising start I won’t miss her as a presenter.

I hope this will at least stop the dumbing down slide, although this
                    modern storytelling and enhanced ambition
concerns me somewhat. This will post make better use of her capabilities than presenting EC I think.

Some people would bring Skellers back but it sounds like a revamp to me …….

An enforced revamp, presumably, rather than a planned one. And a wringing of hands and a cry of, in Katisha's words, "Oh, where shall I find another? Where shall I find another?"

If it is a revamp I hope it won't be infected with the dumbtime lurgy that's afflicted TTN. The way things are at present I wouldn't put it past someone to think devoting an hour of EC to such inappropriate content would be a good idea.

I found the tone, expression and language of the BBC’s Press Release made me squirm and writhe. Does the Corporation ever ask an experienced outside authority to read its hype prior to publication?
