I think it’s SD only on Freesat as well. There are some good things coming up, perhaps as a result of its move to Freeview. Madame Butterfly from the Royal Opera with Ermonela Jaho on Sunday, and next Saturday the LSO concert with Rattle when they played all three Stravinsky ballets in one concert!
"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

Yes I agree Pet. It’s rare to learn anything new in any features or interviews with the Dutchman.

Neither did I. Thanks. I think Freeview Channels must have different numbers depending on where you are and how many other stations you get, so for us it's 147, for example. The classical programmes and opera seem to screen at, what I'd call, unpopular times of day, like Madam Butterfly at 11:00 on a Sunday morning. We use a cheap set top digital tv box to record programmes like these, but it has to reprogrammed every time a new station appears on Freeview. Slightly annoying, but doesn't take long.

Documentary about John Adams coming up soon on Sky Arts, I see.
And the tune ends too soon for us all

Ahem .... isn't it Freeview Channel 11, Freesat 147? (I much prefer Freesat for all sorts of reasons, among them the automatic daily updates at 0200).

One of the rare items relating somewhat closely to the Radio 3 remit to be found on Sky Arts. More like BBC FOUR, unfortunately.

Yes, silly me You are right. Have retuned the digibox and Sky Arts does now appear as Channel 11. The signal's coming from an old satellite dish. Maybe 147 is an automatically generated number.

And of course, it’s now available to all on Freeview Channel 11 (sadly not in HD)

Thanks again for this, I was able to record the concert and just listened to / watched the Mozart concerto, great stuff.

A channel to peruse the listings for rare gems and record, for fear of stumbling on André Rieu &c. (or should I say “stepping in”) by mistake...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

The good stuff tends to be in the mornings and is usually repeated, so careful use of the listings guides is recommended, if only to avoid the dreaded Rieu.

Half-expecting an ad break halfway through the Bruckner... (they wouldn’t, would they??). The one in the interval was bad enough

No ad break in the Bruckner, which was very well played. Special praise for the principal horn. That said, I'm afraid that even Bernard Haitink can't convert me into a Brucknerphile, but we shall keep the recording for sentimental reasons.
I thought the Mozart was quite magical - an exemplary performance by all concerned. What a delicacy of touch Till Fellner has!

                        Agreed about the Mozart

As for the Bruckner, well I’ve only listened to the first movement so far, and it’s unfair to pass judgement as BH is second to none at delivering the cumulative punch over the entire arc of a work.... but, I did find the first movement a bit leaden I felt the music could do with a tad more energy to really shine.

I found that a very moving documentary, calm and honest like the great man himself.

Thomas Allen’s contribution perhaps the highlight for me.

                                And Sarah Connolly
