Absolutely! I remember him best in the Granada series "Game, Set and Match" based on the Len Deighton books. The series was a ratings disaster for Granada, but I couldn't get enough of it. ...The Cold War ended 30 or so years ago, but that series of programmes still make my spine tingle.

I’m extremely grateful for this! I’d never heard of this series, which clearly passed me by completely at the time. Great to have access via YT (I’m praying the whole thing’s there, noticed so far that the first three episodes are). I’ve started the first and am hooked!

I’m a sucker for Cold War espionage stories, and have done to death the Le Carré oeuvre. Great to have a new one! (If anything, the grainy 80s video quality somehow adds to the atmosphere, as in the Guinness series).

Plus very good to be able to watch Ian Holm this sad week, and re-experience his quiet greatness

Absolutely! I remember him best in the Granada series "Game, Set and Match" based on the Len Deighton books. The series was a ratings disaster for Granada, but I couldn't get enough of it. Apparently Len Deighton didn't like the way it had been transposed to T.V. and refused to allow it to be repeated or released on video (then) during his lifetime. As Len Deighton's still alive and living on Guernsey, I suppose we won't be treated to any repeats. I DID obtain a set of pirated D.V.D.s of indifferent quality, but still showing Ian Holm's acting style to excellent effect! The Cold War ended 30 or so years ago, but that series of programmes still make my spine tingle.

Just finished the first double-episode, very absorbing and atmospheric. Reminds me of heading nervously through Checkpoint Charlie in the late ‘80s, changing money etc... Fortunately it was to go and see Dreigroschenoper at the Berliner Ensemble, rather than to patch up the Brahms Network...

I love how the agent in question in codenamed “Brahms 4”...
