Thanks Dave... I suspect that’s going to get a watch!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Review here....in the "so bad its good" category perhaps......

This hilariously OTT French thriller makes previous classical music dramas such as Un Coeur en Hiver seem sensible, via rampant misogyny, a secret affair and a potential murder

They should have watched & learnt from Cherie Lunghi in The Manageress.....remember that...? 1989-90 on....C4. Classic way ahead of its time.
Anyway Killing Eve has really come to life again. Brilliant eps 6 & 7. Got the finale lined up for later....

T'm not sure about the "so bad" bit - maybe it's going to turn out to be "so bad it's bad"! The acting by the "star" is dreadful - absolute rubbish at baton wielding, but maybe she has other things going for her. The plot - some of that is dreadful too, but then there is the element of intrigue to tease us into watching episode two.

Will we watch it again, just to check that the second episode is also bad? Probably!

I thought it was ok and the conductor vs orchestra theme rang true . Interesting to see the new Paris concert Hall with its luxurious backstage facilties. Yes the conducting was terribly unconvincing - absolutely no beat but the actors could in some cases obviously play their instruments.I reckon I could just about conduct the Pastoral from memory if forced to (if I knew how to conduct convincingly).

I have just watched the beginning and am frankly shocked that no attempt was made to perform CPR on that poor conductor (his chest didn't conduct a shock )

              .

... beyond awful. "So bad, it's really bad" as they should say.

We moved over to watching on i-player "Life on Mars" (as recommended by Mark Kermode). Exemplary...

Sounds like a cue for the really bad conductor joke!

She may be a really bad conductor - but actually by episode 4 this series gets really gripping. Ignore the terrible music stuff, there are other issues in this series. Has anyone else stuck with it?

Agreed. Stories are developing, if somewhat far fetched

I've stuck with it despite the mounting implausibility. It's rather wierd that the lead actor gives every impression of being able to play the violin- its quite difficult to fake - yet can't conduct. That aside the intra-orchestral affairs and back-stabbing have the ring of truth. Also very unusual to see Huntington's chorea being a plot line in a drama. Also amazingly impressed with that new Paris concert hall even though it seems to be parked in the middle of the Parisian equivalent of the M25.

We (family with returned children for Lockdown) enjoyed this Spanish film:

On the eve of leaving Madrid for Portugal with her partner Lorenzo, Julieta has a chance encounter with a childhood friend of her daughter. This forces her to confront the past as she begins a journal to her estranged grown-up daughter who cut contact 12 years previously.

A woman is forced to confront her past after meeting a friend of her estranged daughter.

                        12 days left to watch.

Thanks for the suggestion of the Spanish film - we might try. Re Philharmonia - I think we enjoyed it in the end, though the "big question" was never answered - perhaps to set up for another series, or perhaps just to leave us all to make our own conclusions.

Re the Norwegian State of Happiness (BBC) - that was OK - and I learnt a bit more about Norway as a result, though I wasn't totally convinced about it as a series. I didn't realise how poor and seemingly backward Norway was before the oil boom.

In particular I learnt more about a former PM - Per Borten, including this

His down-to-earth nature had been strongly underlined in 1969, when newspaper Dagbladet interviewed him at his farm while he was prime minister. He did the interview wearing nothing but a pair of shoes, a hat and trunks, only days before Queen Elizabeth II was invited to the same farm on a state visit to Norway. The picture of Borten in his underwear went around the world, and the British newspaper Daily Mirror printed the picture over two pages with the headline:
Now the Norwegian Prime Minister is ready to receive the Queen.

Oops.I now realise I crashed a thread dedicated to one TV series.... Apologies - I was in haste.

I'll post it again on the general film thread.

No problem - though you may have given us a clue about something good to watch!
