    Jane Eyre NT - YouTube

Did anyone see the National Theatre's 're-imagining' of Jane Eyre this evening? It's available on YouTube for a week.
Good in parts, I thought. It does rather depend on the audience knowing the story.

We've seen it before, but enjoyed it again. We also fretted about whether we'd seen it at the theatre or in a cinema previously. So many details we can't really remember, though I think the set was much darker when we saw it before.

These NT productions were previously shown in cinemas.

I hadn’t seen this before. Once I got into it, I began to appreciate the production. I particularly liked the way Pilate was given a more prominent role.

Also the quotation from the Thunderstorm from Eine Alpensinfonie.

            Were they only in cinemas?

I understood they were live screenings from the NT on a particular date - what our local picture palace calls 'Event Cinema' which often features opera.

That’s what I thought, so it still doesn’t “solve” the mystery of our memory failure, whether we saw it at the theatre or not.

                  What's wrong with CB's prose?

Because directors CBA to use it?

But seriously, even without the re-imagining bit, you can't use the text of a novel for the stage without adapting it. How far theatres, script-writers and directors want to re-imagine is up to them. At least this production didn't try to time-shift.

Oh blast, I'd forgotten this one. Something else to try and fit in before it disappears ...

So much to do when 'locked down'.
Someone in today's Guardian clearly has some leisure time though, inventing two new cocktails, the Loctini and the Quarantini. The latter should maybe have a small yellow flag as a decoration. (Sailors will know what I mean.)
