Swedish actor (pronounced Suedorff - Swedish pronunciation not as easy as it looks), arguably best remembered for his artistry in the great Bergman movies of the 60’s. My personal recommendations would be his roles in 3 of the Faith Trilogy: Through a Glass Darkly (1961) and Winter Light (1963), and the masterpiece The Seventh Seal (1957) – relevant the moment as it concerns a disillusioned 14th century knight returning from the crusades to a plague stricken country. RIP

He was also the voice of Vigo in Ghostbusters II, clearly one of his greatest roles

@Gurnemanz. Max certainly played a long game though !

I think the first film of his I saw was Three Days of The Condor - then The Greatest Story Ever Told and then Flash Gordon!! It was only many years later I got round to watching him in Ingmar Bergman's films. A couple of standouts for me are The Magician (1958) and The Virgin Spring (1960) performances imho as good and as striking as the one he gave in the Seventh Seal.

A fine actor - and essentially the only major stars of Bergman's extraordinary troupe of actors left surviving are Liv Ullmann and Harriet Andersson both now in their eighties.
