    The Plague; BBC4, Saturday Nights

For anyone seeking a detection drama which doesn't stretch credibility to snapping point, this Spanish series had an excellent start with its first two episodes last Saturday. Nothing to do with Camus, it's set in late 16th Century Seville, with a story reminiscent of The Name of the Rose (film version) or The Hour of the Pig; I was hooked. (And it's only four episodes long, so finishes with next week's double bill.)

Plague decimates 16th-century Seville, crowded by people seeking fortune in the New World.

No it's not, and it doesn't - I carelessly misread the Programme Website. It's six episodes, two shown each week, and I presume finishes on 15th Sept.
