    Bodyguard BBC1 Sunday

New series from Jed Mercurio and the 'Line of Duty' folks, 'Bodyguard' starts this evening on Beeb1 and stars Keeley Hawes and Richard Madden. Not to be missed by LoD fans, I would suggest.
A troubled war veteran is assigned to protect a controversial politician.

    .

... indeed, this looks very promising.

For them as has access to The Times, an interesting article by Amber Rudd comparing her relations with her close protection team when she was Home Secretary with how it is depicted in this series...

The guy has blatant issues - wouldn't these have been detected at the vetting stage? Or am I just not disbelieving my suspenders sufficiently??

Not to be confused with the film of the same title on Channel 5 tonight.

Well - they are pretty incredible! You're not wrong - but the scene with his boss showed, I think, that he's very good at hiding his issues from his superiors.

Yes, I noticed that: coincidence or cheeky timing, I wondered.

Not bad. Not the usual rubbish, but I found some of the acting a bit third rate. May continue watching ...

Surely all the new gadgetry used in weeding out unsuitables would have detected the slightest give-aways, such as twitches, ocular deflections, blinking rates, excessively stiff upper lips, methane retentions?

I don't think there should be any gadgetry for weeding out methane retentions!

... of course. Two blatant errors - his PTSD wd have prevented him from such a post, and secondly : ever since plebgate - no significant MP (let alone a Chief Whip) wd ever have been so crassly rude to a plod, rather, he wd have been grovelling...

There have been a few Clunky Thematic Underlinings - but it's marvellous telly nonetheless : we're enjoying it a lot.

I've always hankered after one of those Late Victorian mansion flats, in Battersea, on the Embankment, in Maida Vale, or wherever the ones depicted are located. I'll eventually spot a recogniseable landmark...

I suspended my disbelief - that's what I was taught to do when watching any dramatic production - and just enjoyed it for what it is - a superior piece of TV drama rather than a searching examination of the terror threat and our approach to it. The build-up and maintenance of the tension in the first 20 minutes were masterly. As ever, the question I asked myself after the first episode was: do I care what happens to any or all of the characters? In the case of, say, 'The Split', is it was 'no', but in this case it was 'yes' (especially poor Nadia....)
Full marks to Richard Madden...and there's also the wonderful Gina McKee!
