Lat night's "Life Story: A Horizon Special" was a real treat; with an all-star cast - Juliet Stevenson, Tim Pigott-Smith, Alan Howard & Jeff Goldblum...
Brenda Maddox's "Rosalind Franklin:The Dark Lady of DNA" is an interesting read, as is James Watson's "The Double Helix".

Film telling the story of the race to discover the structure of DNA. Watson and Crick have the bright ideas and the will to win. But there's one little problem: Rosalind Franklin has the crucial data.

My wife talked me into the 3rd episode of Black Doves yesterday. I told her I refuse to continue. Each episode of more vapid than its predecessor. It is fascinating to wonder just how bad something can get

Her scenes with the two leads are among the best I’ve seen in recent years (the script seems to have risen to greet her, too)
I've just started the first series and am very impressed. I noticed that a certain Jonathan Powell was among the consultants named in the credits.

I’m liking Black Doves more and more! (Currently in episode 3). Stylish, intriguingly convoluted plot, and some great supporting characters! I particularly like the Welsh one of the pair of hitwomen

It’s like a mash-up of The Americans and Killing Eve

Give it a try, is my advice!

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Duly noted - still making my way through Series One of your Ambassadorial Netflix recommendation.

We enjoyed it too, despite the absolutely preposterous timelines and story in general.

... sorry, can't agree. Unwatchable tripe, actors walking thro' their parts, no sense of rhythm in the pacing - just relentless and forced. Gave up after two and bit episodes

I stand with Mrs Finegold on this matter!

....Watched Jane Eyre last night via bbc4....the Michael Fasbender/ Mia Wasikowska issue....about 20minutes of the movie is missing - where she leaves after failed wedding and becomes a school mistress - it jumps to the end of that episode where she is invited to marry the missionary.

IMHO the best Jane Eyre (to date) is the one with Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens.

There was a most entertaining ten-minute programme on BBC4 last night - a black and white film accompanying the viewer through Dylan Thomas' 'A Child's Christmas in Wales'. The film from 1965 was originally broadcast on 'Late Night Line-Up'.

I watched this - there was a distinct lack of snow when the postman was (presumably) delivering seasonal mail.
