Hi, Patrick, as I recall, the Hawkins film of Gideon was distinctly better than the TV series , which, though enjoyable, was limited (in my view) by the need to fit into a sixties-TV-entertainment format. I felt the same about 'Danger Man' and I think Pat McGoohan did too, which was why he wanted to make 'The Prisoner'.

      Ooo yes that’s the one

Did you recommend it to me or did we each find it independently?

      Either way, loved it!

      PS welcome PatrickMurtha!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I would like to see the film, certainly, not least because it’s John Ford! But I do find the series satisfying and nostalgia-provoking.

The episodes of that on YouTube are very rough visually, alas. The Gideon’s Way eps are crisp, thankfully.

The panorama program about the fall of ftx is interesting.
Annoyingly listening to and commenting on radio 3...

A little OT but why does the Aldi Christmas TV advertisement feature horse chestnuts rather than sweet chestnuts?

I hadn't noticed! Let's hope they aren't selling them as edible!

More information abouthe SkyArts broadcasts of Bruckner Symphonies. They were performed in S. Florian's by the Munich Philharmonic orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev. It looks as if they aren't doing the D minor symphony known as 'number nought'.

The prickles on the 'shell' are the give-away.
