I rather whizzed through KDW. I was a little puzzled by some of the street scenes where, I think, some of the background included modern day cars/trams. Maybe I wasn’t paying enough attention.
Tempting! Are series 1-3 still available? Note, Isherwood's "Goodbye to Berlin" is 99p this month for Kindle.

Now TV was my main source for TV drama/comedy last year. Series I'd recommend without reservation : Chernobyl, The Sopranos, Succession, The Wire, Mare of Easttown, Band of Brothers,
The Night Of, The White Lotus, The Office US, Patrick Melrose, Curb Your Enthusiasm

With some reservations: Boardwalk Empire, Resident Alien, Yellowjackets, Billions

      Hiya Braunschlag,

I hadn’t paid much attention to particular songs but on reflection yes it certainly has.

I’d say yes - ‘Ein Tag wie Gold, another gem. Binged the lot yesterday - hope S5 isn’t far away, cliffhanging to say the least! *
I’ll make the most of this years sub - on with Der Pass now (I’ll watch anything with Nicolas Ofczarek) followed by Das Boot S3. I’ll get my tenners worth before lapsing.

        * Edit - penny dropped, there are still 4 episodes to go, duh!

David Olusoga's latest offering, an excellent documentary for the BBC on the history of Covent Garden, mainly dealing from its establishment in the early 17th century to the closure of the market at the end of the 1970s, told in his usual informative way.

The original House of Cards with Ian Richardson is being aired complete on BBC4 tonight from 10.15pm until 2.10am. Recorder duly set.

Worth watching for Jim Parker's jaunty theme tune alone, one of the top TV theme tunes of all time and one I still remember after 30 odd years.

The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

Not even strictly seen on TV, but related to the above post is another - a Joolz guide to Covent Garden, sent by a friend, which I can thoroughly recommend if you, too, need a good cheering up!

A more extensive London walk around Covent Garden looking at the history, vice and how it almost got destroyed to make way for a motorway. The Covent Garden ...

Just watching Peter Kay’s Car Share on DVD.

                    Really lovely, and very funny.

I don't care much for today's TV documentaries, which have become very formulaic, but I was intrigued by Channel 5's programme on the 1987 Zeebrugge ferry disaster. A case of a 'nice point in law' ; no-one was convicted.

The first two F.U.series are absolutely superb and the third is very good, if not as satisfying as its predecessors.

Jim Parker’s music is, indeed, perfect in setting up the story - it’s also quite an earworm, one of those insistent tunes that you find yourself humming for no reason whatever.

I’ve not watched the American remake, which seems to have dislodged the original in what passes for the minds of Gen Xers and Millennials.

The books on which the series is based are utter illiterate garbage, the drivelling of arch Tory stooge Michael ‘Dobber’ Dobbs.

The Secret Genius of Modern Life is three episodes in now on BBC2. The ever-enthusiastic and highly watchable Dr Hannah Fry dissects (often literally) the objects of of our everyday lives: gripping, educative and entertaining in equal measure.

She's so educative and entertaining that I believe the ever-excellent Hannah is now a Professor, kb.

Señorita 89, BBC4 Saturday 9pm, and BBC iPlayer

Glamorous and exciting Mexican crime thriller in 8 parts about beauty culture and the empowerment vs victimisation of women, set in 1989 with some great characters and performances. Mexican film continues to grow in my estimation the more I watch. The few movies I’ve seen have been mainly recent frothy, lightweight comedies available free to view on Prime Video, delightfully old fashioned by our standards but on the whole well cast and well acted. This 8 part series was made for streaming TV and released concurrently in the US and Mexico. Makes a welcome and colourful change from the Saturday night Nordic Noir slot, imho.
And the tune ends too soon for us all

I'd been wondering about that, having just today spotted it on my RT run-through. Tonight's are Episodes 5 and 6 - too late for catching up: shame I've overlooked it earlier.
