No, I think the listing reflects virgin’s cable channels, which don’t include a standard definition version of channel 4. I expect it’ll be in SD and HD on Freeview.

The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

      Some quite serious themes.

I thought it was a great wee series, Dave. I'm enjoying the present Icelandic effort on BBC4 on Saturdays, 'The Valhalla Murders', though finding it a bit confusing at times.

We quite like it too, though bits of it are grisly. Also the police seem to have inherited the ability (??) to go it alone, split up, and go into places without backup, and this lot aren’t even armed.

The Queens Gambit - Netflix original. Best thing I’ve seen for a while, and the period detail is worthy of Mad Men...

Another vote for The Queens Gambit - extremely involving.
            Best regards,

Yeah, Dave, funny that they do that. In 'DNA', the female cop had a habit of going into ridiculous situations alone and then, (spoiler alert), getting hit over the head with a shovel or the like! You'd think they'd learn!

Possibly the best thing I’ve seen this year. Highly recommended.

Ah - but she didn't have the fancy pullovers and the torch of one of the earlier Danish characters! Agree about

Early in the series yet (2 episodes in) but... yes!

Good stuff otherwise though, shall certainly continue.

Which platform is DNA on? Very much enjoyed Queen’s Gambit. About to start Call My Agent, have heard great things.

Barenboim On Beethoven: The Lost Tapes
In 1970, to mark the 200th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s birth, conductor and pianist Daniel Barenboim recorded 13 episodes about the man and his music at London’s Roundhouse Theatre. This two-hour compilation includes some of the best moments, while the full 13 episodes (which have never been broadcast in the UK before) can be viewed on More4 after the film. Barenboim plays extracts at the piano and discusses the late, great composer’s compositions.

When can I watch them and on what channel?

Barenboim On Beethoven: The Lost Tapes will air on Channel 4 HD (CH 104/141) on Saturday 19 December. It is also available in Apps & Games > All 4.

Barenboim On Beethoven episodes 1-13 will air on More4/HD (CH 147/195) on Saturday 19 December. They are also available in Apps & Games > All 4.

Re Barenboim on Beethoven, the crucial point to note seems to be that the 13 complete programmes will only be avilable on More 4, NOT on Channel 4.
