(I say this having watched the whole of series 2.)
The whole thing seems to be predicated on the relationship between Eve and Villanelle - but there is zero on-screen chemistry between Oh and Comer, leaving a gaping whole at the centre. Sandra Oh seems terribly limited - a continuing expression of frown and distress is not enuff to inhabit a role. The series springs to life whenever Comer is on screen - the camera loves her, and we watch entranced her every facial expression: and the chemistry between her and the lovely Constantin (Kim Bodnia) is a delight. As you say, the other characters are two-dimensional - the irritating Oxford graduate, Eve's tiresome husband, - even Fiona Shaw is beginning to pall...
They shd have stopped at the end of the first series (and even then the last episode fell flat). Fleabag was excellent in knowing to wrap up when it did.

We loved the first series...
As a footnote : de Quincey wrote well on this subject :

Yes, the clothes are.....wonderful... the way Villanelle matches each outfit to the occasion (loved the Oxford sweater (tied round the shoulders, natch, darling) & trousers...)...
Anyway, finished Eve S2 last night...... but... can't say anything about it can I? (there's a psychopathic assassination in Amsterdam that's just....)....
No spoilers now.....!

I could level many charges at Y&Y, but I don’t think that of ‘pretentiousness’ is one of them.
I find all the characters basically dislikeable which I don’t think was the author’s intention.
The first episode’s camp humour and ‘sex robot’ really put me off, too.
I’ts been a bit of a ratings disaster, by the looks of things. Possibly a bit too close to home for the times we live in.
One thing I do like about it: the right-wing populist is a convincing melange of Marine Le Pen, Nadine Dorries, Boris Johnson and Donald Trump.
