F1 cars have been using hybrid engines since 2014, which have reduced petrol usage by about 30%. Last year F1 committed to being completely carbon neutral by 2030, although I think the intention is to continue to use hybrid power units, rather than go totally electric. As others have pointed out Formula E is already completely electric.

Worst any of us have seen in many years.......I had cold-running-blood and tears welling up all at once, watching live.....cameras kept respectfully away live until they knew Romain was safe.... miraculously, only minor burns, recovering in hospital now....

Such heroism from Romain and the medical staff! The best of humanity is here...
Couldn’t agree more, Jayne. The sight of Grosjean emerging from the centre of the fireball (and from the part of the car that had passed through the barrier) was extraordinary...

...as was the courage of the medical delegate there, approaching in less-than-ideal equipment (as was apparent when he was interviewed after the race).

Mercifully I was catching up last night, so knew Grosjean was ok when seeing it. Otherwise...

Seemed like a dreadful mix of Cevert’s and Lauda’s accidents in the 70s (the first fatal, the latter almost).

Extraordinary tribute to safety advances (especially the previously-controversial ‘halo’ protective structure) that he could post this cheerful message a couple of hours later:

I would have thought that non-availability of petrol and diesel is quite some way in the future? The move to electric vehicles doesn't mean suddenly no liquid fuel, although I imagine there will increasingly be controls on events based on ICE vehicles, and obtaining the 'dirty' stuff will doubtless become more difficult for the left-behind(whether from choice or no alternative) motorist. The change to unleaded fuel didn't suddenly stop vintage cars being used, but did mean adapting.

It seems that over Christmas Channel 4 will be showing a 13-part series that Daniel Barenboim originally made for Granada TV in 1969 for Beethoven’s 200th anniversary. Apparently only six episodes were shown on Granada North West in 1969, but Channel 4 will now show all of the episodes. They were filmed at the Roundhouse Theatre, and feature Barenboim in his late twenties, working with the New Philharmonia Orchestra as well as Sir Adrian Boult.

I assume it is this series.

I should caution that this is being reported by Norman Lebrecht, and so may need to be taken with a large pinch of salt (I haven't seen any announcements from Channel 4).

Looks to be a Stormin' Norman fake news story. As you say, no mention within Channel 4's Christmas schedule announcements.

Indeed, and it’s hardly Channel 4’s usual fare, so the idea they would find time for 13 half hour programmes devoted to classical music seems highly unlikely.

Back in the day it wouldn't have been so surprising for C4 to air such a series I think, but they have moved away from such content. In terms of finding time, there are spaces opening up now as Covid has stopped or delayed new material, witness the increasingly desperate looking rehashes(cut and paste 'best of...) of previously shown material across the channels, so from that point of view it's not so unlikely?
Pity if it is, as suggested, fake news.

The Christmas edition of Radio Times is officially available from next Tuesday. That should clear up the matter.

Perhaps they will put the series on All4 for streaming?

The BBC4 programme on Wednesday 2nd Dec at 8.00 was called Winterwatch. Not the usual Chris Packham fare. It had fabulous footage not only of that big 1963 freeze, but also of presenters such as Cliff Michelmore with their 1960's accents. I remember it well as a sixth-former. It was partly great fun, of course, but also extremely dangerous. My recollections include milk-bottles on the doorstep with the cream sticking out about 3 inches from the top, and more alarmingly, the avalanches of snow falling off roofs when the thaw finally set in. I had partly forgotten how seriously transport, food supplies and power were affected. And surprisingly the West Coutry, usually of milder climate, came off worst.

We found DNA on BBC Four (Danish) worth watching. It’s still available for anyone who wants to try.

                            Some quite serious themes.

Danish detective Rolf Larsen has his life brutally upended when his daughter goes missing. Five years on, a new lead emerges, and the lines between personal and professional blur.

I have found some more detailed information from Virginmedia:

Barenboim On Beethoven: The Lost Tapes
In 1970, to mark the 200th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s birth, conductor and pianist Daniel Barenboim recorded 13 episodes about the man and his music at London’s Roundhouse Theatre. This two-hour compilation includes some of the best moments, while the full 13 episodes (which have never been broadcast in the UK before) can be viewed on More4 after the film. Barenboim plays extracts at the piano and discusses the late, great composer’s compositions.

When can I watch them and on what channel?

Barenboim On Beethoven: The Lost Tapes will air on Channel 4 HD (CH 104/141) on Saturday 19 December. It is also available in Apps & Games > All 4.

Barenboim On Beethoven episodes 1-13 will air on More4/HD (CH 147/195) on Saturday 19 December. They are also available in Apps & Games > All 4.

Am I to take it from that that it will not be on Channel 4 (standard definition) but only on Channel 4 HD and More 4? Never mind. All will be revealed via the online schedule, nearer the date. I do hope it will be available in standard definition. HD tends to have some copy protection encoding which restricts editing and further copying to optical disc from an initial hard disc recording on my now-ancient Panasonic Blu-ray/Hard Disc recorder.
