I couldn't believe it when the local council put up signs saying "roadside nature reserve" which probably was just an excuse not to maintain the verges. Poor rabbits and field mice: "ooh, this is a nice place to live!" ..... <splat>

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Some councils are belatedly coming round to the idea that roadside verges don't have to be "maintained" until fauna have nested and had their offspring. Trimming back verges and hedgerows provides no extra safety to nearby wildlife, I wouldn't have thought.

Trying to deflect criticism, and calls to cut the verges, by pointing out that the 'neglect' is deliberate.
... yes indeed - each episode a real gem. Don't miss the little bits of foolery after the end credits. And of course the credits with changes to the names...
Greyzone on Channel Four catch up. Excellent Scandi thriller, mixing terrorist threat and well-done characters, and up there with The Bridge et al. Birgitte Hjort Sørensen very watchable (she was tv journalist in Borgen.) I'm half way through a binge-watch of the ten 45 miniute episodes.
On BBC4 last night, conveying the incredible story of those who came from the Caribbean on the Windrush, and subsquently, to work mainly as midwives and nurses in the NHS. Such programmes have usually tended to overlook the female portion of that intake, and it was heart-wrenching to see them describe in unexpurgated words the unforgiveable racism from white patients and discrimination in terms of recruitment and promotion given as thanks for their hard working devotion to duty and care. The programme concluded with a small crowd gathered to witness the unveiling of a statue outside one of the big London hospitals to the first black woman to come to this country, in 1855, to care for the sick. It seems almost impossible now to repay these wonderful and strong women the gratitude for what they did for us, and continue to do.
Finished watching BBC1's 'The Luminaries' last night...still not completely sure what was going on and I doubt I'll be delving back in to check. Looked quite good, but I thought some of the acting was really pretty duff, to be honest.

....just a gothic romp eh?....lead is Bono's daughter....
I had a go at episode 1 but gave up: the characters, plot and production completely failed to engage me
