    Storyville: Final Account (BBC4)
A portrait of the last living generation of everyday people to participate in the Third Reich. Men and women ranging from former SS officers to children who grew up in Hitler’s Germany speak for the first time about their memories and perceptions of some of the greatest crimes in human history.

I fell across this midway last night and watched the latter part. It is not an easy watch: but important to anyone who cares about the Holocaust and its meaning for us today.

This looks very promising.... 2100, BBC1 tonight.....

Ben Whishaw stars in an adaptation of Adam Kay's hit memoir of life as a junior doctor

It certainly doesn't hurt to have screen-magnet Ben Whishaw as the lead....I love this guy.
I hope the PM and the feeble mealymouthed apologists who form up around him are watching....

I thought I would give it a go tonight. I've read the book, which can be an obstacle I've found in the past with dramatisations, but it will be the extent to which I can make out the dialogue which will be the decider. The last time I tried using my headphones so I could turn up the volume without worrying about if it could be heard next door (for a Proms concert I think) the TV sound stayed on which rather defeated the object! Ben Wishaw would seem to be a good choice for the lead.

I'm certainly hooked on this from the first two epi-doses, much though I dislike peeping Tomming on the lifestyles of the rich and spoilt and the way it makes up so much contemporary TV drama - what do I care??; I need to work out what is going on in the mind of the main character.

I gave this a try (having read and enjoyed the book) but I didn’t think the dramatisation added anything, the superlative Ben W having to render Kay’s very amusing writing by under-the-breath comments and direct-to-camera remarks, which seemed artificial & stilted to me. I can’t think of how else it could be done, but in this case I think I’ll stick with the printed word

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Not sure you'll be clear on that by the end of episode 6! Still, it's a gripping psychological drama that had me completely hooked.

Mrs C and I watched 'The Tourist' on the beeb. I didn't hold out much hope after the first couple of episodes; you know the stuff, outback Oz and lots of totally wacko people. But I really enjoyed the last few episodes - quite funny, quite odd, but unfortunately with the required hanging ending suggesting a future series. Nevertheless entertaining, we thought.

Binge-watched The Promise, BBC4, 6 episodes: a tantalising French abduction and murder mystery, which jumps between two time frames - confusing at first but increasingly understandable. Worth watching if you like crimi stuff.

Don't know if it's available to catch up on, but I watched an excellent celebration of Robin Williams called 'Inside the Mind of Robin Williams' on Sky Arts last night. Very funny indeed with friends, colleagues and family talking lovingly about him. A bright light that didn't know how to switch itself off was how one fellow comedian described him.

I watched it merely to be sociable with a small family group. Sorry to disagree with others, but it was one of the worst TV films I've seen.
Awful acting, unlikely cop heroine, too much unnecessary driving about in cars and an ending scene qui me donne envie de vomir.

I intend starting a thread of its own for Chloe on Monday after the sixth and last episode has been broadcast.

Having binge-watched Eps 3-6 on iPlayer, after watching 1 & 2 'as iive', and then re-watching Ep 6, I'm interested to discuss the series with interested others here - WITH SUITABLE SPOILER ALERT.

This will appear (all being well) soon after 2200 on Monday next 21st.

Channel 5 should be renamed Channel Yorkshire. Another new series* starting tonight about - guess where.
Yorkshire has much going for it, and I have enjoyed some of the series but, in the same way that London isn't the only city in the country, Yorkshire isn't the only county.
