The problem with Young Musician is the unpredictable and sometimes long interval between the conclusion of the performances and the announcement of the verdict.

For something that happens only every 2 years that really shouldn't be an insurmountable problem, especially as the Beeb doesn't have to accommodate advertisers' needs, assuming the will is there to deal with it. Easier to hide behind "minority interest, narrow appeal, low viewing figures", than make an effort perhaps.

Don't see why the result can't be recorded - and allocated its own slot later in the evening. At least the performances could be live, with the increased freedom that would give.

That would figure. YM is allocated a Fixed Slot every two years and is not allowed to overrun. Unlike some other events.

Perhaps they could allocate to the Red Button. (I'm being serious.)
